  2. Hi Gareth, and thank you for the warm welcome. I tend to agree with you regarding the original 5 years/75,000 miles from all the research online and people I've spoken to. It is after all a rubber part and rubber deteriorates. Yes it's a private sale. I have checked the MoT history online and the only advisories have been tyres. The DVLA vehicle check states the last change of ownership was September 2022, so the current, (second) owner has had the vehicle for about 18 months. It's been garaged for the last month as he now has another car. It was advertised with MoT until June 2024, so I asked for a new MoT to be put on it. At first he added another £200 to the asking price for MoT and service but dropped the increase when I mentioned the cam belt. Therefore I wasn't intending to have it independently checked before purchase as the service/MoT should highlight most things. It is in immaculate condition, but he kept banging on about how well looked after it had been by the previous owner and himself. Given that the Audi UK guidance was 5 years/75,000 when it was manufactured, I would consider at least 1 cam belt change would be part of that care. Given the condition, in the photos, as viewing isn't due to happen until next week, the FSH and relatively low mileage I still feel £8,000 is overpriced, particularly when taking the lack of cam belt change into consideration. Any thoughts? (I'm expecting you to say it's overpriced btw but I do live in the south of the country so prices are a bit higher than elsewhere). Not heard about the high oil consumption issue but don't think she could stretch to buying a 2015 model. Sorry if I'm going on a bit, I just want to give my daughter the right advice

  4. Hello Nick, As Stevey says. I been putting a dampener on anything to do with large wheels for some time, since the trend seems to be for the largest wheels and the skinniest tyres - because they look good. Yet, you cannot see the wheels when you are sat in the car, but you are the one who suffers the adverse ride quality. Add to the potential of harder sidewalls, probably XL etc. and everything gets magnified. An equally aged friend found the ride to be not to his liking on an S.Line with skinny tyres chosen for him by his children - it went back. Mind, I’d not be too happy about the expense of changing wheels and tyres, but… Interesting you mention Bridgestone, since I have been considering these on our non-Audi. For me, I want as comfortable ride as I can get from the tyres, and as much mileage as poss. so any recommendations are welcome. Kind regards, Gareth.
  5. Welcome Dawn-Marie, and thanks for posting. Nice to hear you are doing the homework before you commit to buy, and what you have been told was, and is correct. Incase it help, I intend to stick with the earlier 75k or 5 years - whichever comes first, since I just cannot understand the logic of an open ended time interval - except that it increases the risk of another wrecked Audi, and the sale of another one! If it were mine, I would be catering for replacing this now. Private sale? Have you seen evidence of the service history, checked the on-line MOT history, looked up the DVLA Vehicle Check to see when the last V5 was issued ( indication of owner change). Are you having the car independently checked before purchase? An Audi independent near to where the car is would be a good place to start. Last but certainly not least - I’m not sure if the 2014 TFSI engine was still within the range of model years which could be affected by the dreaded high oil consumption issue ( possibly up to 2015??). Stevey Y on here will be far more knowledgeable than I’m on this, so worth sending him a PM to see if he can help. Good luck, and kind regards, Gareth.
  6. Hi guys, wasn't really sure whether to post in here or introduce myself as a new member. I'm in the process of helping my daughter to purchase an A3 TFSI 2014 and came across the site when trying to research the timing belt interval. I'm still confused!!! There are 2 threads I've looked at, this being one of them, I can't find the other one. From what I can gather the Audi UK's recommendation was every 5 years or 75,000 miles whichever came first. I phoned my local main dealer and was told it had changed to 140,000 miles, 86,991 in old money with no time interval specified. So the 2014 car I am looking at has 75,000 on the clock but hasn't had the timing belt changed. This makes me nervous! I think he's selling it because the timing belt change is due. Any advice would be gratefully received
  7. Thanks for your reply. I'll investigate that option.
  8. Unfortunately it’s defo sensor 3 by the looks of it when I’ve doubled checked. any other help would be appreciated cheers Andy
  9. No vat they are a very good garage use them alot " viking motors " in rotherham they have 5 star on google thanks gareth
  10. Who are ‘they’ Beany? VAT on top? Possibly 6+ hours? But that’s a guess. Whatever, they will no doubt have Autodata or similar to refer to to get a book time.
  11. And i have a full luk dual mass flywheel and clutch kit
  12. They have not given me a quote yet i just booked it in
  13. Hi gareth i got my car booked in april 29th local garage clutch and dual mass flywheel im supplying parts they doing just labour car is audi a4 b7 2.0 tdi bre 140 manual i was thinking how much should i be looking at for labour and roughly how many hours is a job like this and i think they charge around 50 pound an hour thanks
  14. Hello Beany, How many hours have you been quoted, is the quote from a main dealer, independent, or local garage, and what is the hourly rate from the quote? Sounds like you have a ‘labour only’ quote and want to do some arithmetic to calculate the number of hours they are charging you for. Couple of points to bear in mind:- Do we recall you are supplying the parts? If so, your guarantee from the fitters will be limited. Also the garage may want to ‘add a little bit’ to make up for their loss of profit on the parts. Kind regards, Gareth.
  15. Many thanks for the very useful update Mike. Kind regards, Gareth. .
  16. My local Audi is in Worthing (Roundstone). Tell your Audi Service Dept that Audi have issued a bulletin (March 2024) regarding this fault and that it has nothing to do with the stop/start generator. If they find nothing then ask them to get in touch with Audi Worthing for details. The cost of the repair (parts/labour/VAT) was around £200. Hope this is the "fix" for your fault.
  17. Thanks Stevey I’ll double check but I’m sure when I disconnected it then ran the diagnostic number 3 sensor came up. I do hope your right as that will be easy to do. Thanks again
  18. Thanks for the speedy reply Imran. Yes, it's a strange one. I've owned the car for about a month now and it's happened on two occasions. I'm hoping it resolves itself like yours did 🤞
  19. I did, however in this post is the full problem written down.
  20. I have the same problem which Audi garage did you take it to and what was the cost
