  1. Picked up my (2018) RS3 yesterday as a replacement for my (lovely, and under rated) S3. It's in Mythos Black with most of the extras boxes ticked by the original owner. WOW - you can read the figures, but when you press the loud pedal the difference is ******* marked! The sound is also something special, all I need to do is find a nice long tunnel now. I think that I'm going to enjoy this. I'm sure that a little while into ownership, I'll have questions for long term owners, so hopefully the advice will be forthcoming.
  2. The front tyres on my 16 plate S3 saloon are getting a bit skinny and I'll need to replace them soon. So my question is whether to replace with a new set of the original spec. Continental SportContact 5Ps, or change to the newer Sport Contact 6Ps? The rear types (also 5Ps) still have a reasonable amount of tread left on them. If not Continentals, what other alternatives? Phil
  3. I think the colour looks really good. I hope that you enjoy your new car. Phil
  4. Check what the route preferences have been set. You can set these for/against motorways, shortest/fastest, etc. This might be why it's not sending you on your preferred route. Phil
  5. Just back from France after a couple of successful track days. I took advice from a couple of racers and the race instructor to leave the tyre pressures as advised by Audi. The car worked a treat and surprised a lot of the other cars - lots of Porsches, Lotuses, 3 GT40s and a couple of M3s. In the wet the traction was a real winner and very few could stay near me out of the tighter corners. In the dry it still performed very well. After about 6 laps (3.4 km per lap) the tyres were cooked and turned to 'chewing gum' - but they recovered fine for the drive home. Brakes were very impressive, no fade at all. This would probably be different with track tyres fitted, but with road tyres it's the tyres that give up first. Fastest car there - probably the Audi A8, but a toss up with the full race spec. Porsche RS4 and the Ultima. There was a Nissan GTR there, but the driver was pretty slow.

    Tyres

I've used Black Circle when getting tyres for my previous car (Honda Civic Type R), and a friend also uses them for his GT40 tyres. I found them to be good value, and the tyres can either be delivered to you, or (as I did) delivered to a local fitter.
  7. At the end of the month I'm taking my 2016 S3 Saloon down to France for a couple of days on track. Any advice on what pressure (cold) that I should set my tyres to at the start of the day? I'm running on Continental 5P 235/35 R19 . This will be my first track day, so any other advice for a rookie? Phil
  8. I've had several cars in very similar colours - but this was back in the 1990s. Judging from the photo it looks great, and if it works for you...enjoy. Phil
  9. Hi all Collected my new S3 saloon on Friday - love it already. Just popped in to say Hi, and see what's happening. Hopefully will be able to pick up advice and hints as I learn more about the car and its systems. Phil
