  1. Sorry for the late reply, I now have the car home at my workshop. No noises from the power steering , but after removing the headlamp I found the power steering reservoir was completely empty , so I am thinking it must be the seals on the steering rack. Yesterday I replaced a coil spring on the back and also fixed a condensated headlamp by boring a couple of 6 mm holes on the bottom of the light to allow the moisture out and dried it next to my boiler last night and this morning its completely clear :)
  2. I freed the wheel today , just removed the wheel and gave the drum a good knock with a hammer and it started moving. Also removed a section of the exhaust which had broken off at the front catalyst/silencer and had been scraping on the road with the previous owner so this part is completely shot and worn threw, at the back end there was a joiner onto the rear silencer which I cut off as it was rusted solid. I started the car and moved it around a bit, during this I found that there is no power steering ? and also the front wiper moves a bit then stops ? Also found the nearside rear spring to be broken. I am planning on getting it back to my workshop either this weekend or sometime next week.
  3. Actually the battery on the car was the original and over 16 years old ! I removed the battery and charged it overnight at work, tried it on the car and it turned over but did not start then after a while the battery started losing its power, so I stuck the jump leads and first turn of the key the little A2 fired up :) Problem now with the brakes seized on and I have managed to free all but nearside rear hub , so ill have to whip off the wheel next time I am down and free that one, still not managed to get the car home yet for that reason , plus I still have to do a temp repair on the exhaust. There is also a complete A2 forum if anyone is interested , lots of enthusiasts and advice readily available for all technical queries. http://www.a2oc.net/
  4. So today I purchased a 2001 Audi A2 1.4TDI, Had a quick look over the car and tried to start it but battery completely flat and could even see the dash lights, so went to pop the bonnet and was shown that the bonnet actually lifts of , I liked that ;) Then found that the battery is actually in the boot but could'nt pop it as battery was dead so we took the jump leads in threw the rear window connected then gave it a minute tried to start it and it did turn over very slowly, I noticed the glow plug light went out very quickly , but the car did not start, it was if even with the jump leads on and my car running the battery was still showing like a very low voltage battery, which surprised me as I thought it would turn over a lot quicker using my battery. Or is it the case that I would need to remove the battery and charge it overnight on a trickle charge and try again ?
  5. I am now the proud owner of a 2001 Audi A2 ;) , going to start a thread in the A2 club.
  6. So basically the best way to stay environmentally friendly is to maintain and service your car as long as you possibly can, until it really is beyond repair , the amount of cars I have seen scrapped that had a good few years left in them is astounding , I am currently doing up a 2005 Corolla 1.4 vvti , all that was wrong with it was horn never worked - Cleaned connection , replaced a rusty wishbone, couple of tyres , some brake pipes replaced , quite a few but actually a doddle when you have the correct tools, front discs and pads , cleaned up rear brakes and replaced a brake backing plate, wipers and hey presto an mot'd corolla in good nic with only 78k on the clock. Paid 100 for the car , spent about 300-350, have a buyer lined up for 900,
  7. Be a great model to use as an all electric , not that I am pro electric but that lightweight chassis would be perfect , maybe Audi should re-visit the A2 with this in mind.
  8. That's a shame , sorry to hear of your misfortune, Has the Chain ever been done or worked with recently would there be any warranty cover on the works if so ?
  9. It does make you wonder why it didn't sell or did it sell and they just couldn't make the finance numbers work with build costs ? I remember thinking of buying one years ago just for the MPG figures for the diesel but at that time you were looking at between 5-9K depending on build year. Be interesting to how many they sold and how many are left ?
  10. Wow great vid ! Its safe to say the A2 is very much the relative of the Audi family that's not talked about much :)
  11. Ok so is the chassis Aluminium/Galvy including subframe etc ? Do these A2s have a history of electrical problems ? I think mechanically the engine is sound , its done 138,000 which isn't much for a diesel with regular servicing.
  12. Nice set up, I remember years ago my mates dad had a salt water aquarium with live coral and very exotic fish , I seem to remember it was quite a bit of work with PH testing of water and regulating the salt content, cleaning filters etc but he was really into it and it was his labour of love, visually very impressive though.
  13. Yeah I would have thought at that speed the airbags would have popped , you know any guys down your local Audi garage you could ask or maybe a autobody repair shop ?
  14. That is a bit strange but I guess it depends on how hard the crash was, are there any lights on the dash now that weren't there before ? Or when you push in the switch do any lights appear ?
