Tyre choice

Hi all, recently bought my Q7 and for the first time, the tyres are on around 4mm on the back so the garage wouldn't change them. Can any of you advise choice of tyres. I only do around 8000 per year as it comes out on high days and holidays. Michelins are on there at moment and are great for low road noise. Tyres range from £90 up to around 240 per corner but I really only need a tyre at some point to reflect my driving usage. Mostly a roads and country lanes with some motorway work. Just been to France in it and it ran beautifully quietly.

you guys are the experts so maybe you can help me.

also, not being a total 4x4 user for long but I thought all four wheels should run the tyres out at around the same time but thinking it will be the back ones that need replacing first. Is it ok to put new on the back and older ones on the front ???

Hi Justin welcome to the forum :)

if it were me I would stick with the tyres that are already fitted. I say that as you already know they are quiet which is already a good thing.

Michelins are good and iv heard Goodyear eagle f1 are good. And I don't see it to be a problem to put the fronts on the back as you have Quattro but your local tyre specialist will be able to advise otherwise.

Also if you've been to France recently then feel free to write a road trip review with your hints and tips. I'm sure URL be useful for other members :)

oh and if you would like to display your q7 at any up and coming events with us then just let us know :)  We are trying to get enough cars for VAG Tuner Live which is happening at Donington park on Sunday 16th July.

Cheers

HI Justin

I would advise keeping the tyres at the same tread depth all round to preserve the longevity of the Quattro all-wheel drive system.

As Steve Q has already mentioned, probably stick to the tyres you know are durable and quiet, as long as they are a good price for four at a time.

Cheers  Trevor

thanks guys, happened to see these on eBay at the weekend, seems very cheap for 4 new tyres. Is there a risk these are going to be dangerous. All that glitters etc etc. Link above for you to see the tyres.

your thoughts please

They do seem very cheap! I can't say iv heard of the brand but I'm not a tyre guru.

As the ago old saying goes, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

on the other hand they could be old stock and they are running out of time to sell them.

Tyres are now date stamped I believe as to year of manufacture. They recommend that you don't use tyres over 7  years old.

But on the other hand I have an old Ford escort which does 1800 miles a year and iv got tyres that are over 7 years old and have not had any issues (yet!)

I don't think they are of a very good quality personally, especially to put on a Q7....you could always have a look at Black Circles who supply the tyres and then you find someone to fit them, may work out as a good deal for four tyres

Thanks chaps, I read some reviews on them and pretty much all were poor. A friend has some accents as on his Q7 and thinks they are a pretty good mid range tyre but I think il stick with what I have on here at present, as you said, they are a known quantity. Il just have to suck up the cost.

Thank you

This was my last transporter, T5 nil tree 1. !!        I had just spent £3.4k on and automatic gear box rebuild, drive shaft and 2 new tyres on the front.

It was a relatively low speed accident in which the newly wet road by a bit of drizzle made the tarmac quite slippery. I was not even going fast enough for the airbags to deploy even though I hit a tree head on. I totally blame the budget tyres for not having sufficient grip. This is why I now only by good tyres, for the sake of another £100 for all four corners it's just not something I will consider again.

Just my humble opinion though.
