Are dealers being honest about used cars in the £40k tax band?

Recommended Posts

Hi - I've just purchased an ex-demonstrator A5 and I'm interested in how common my experience is.

Basically, when viewing and test driving the car, the sales guy mentioned the £450 tax band for cars over £40k but said mine didn't hit that limit so my tax would be £145. When I went to pick up the car however, he'd 'discovered' that the options took the £38k car into the higher tax band and I'd actually have to pay £450 on the day.

I wasn't exactly going to walk away at that point, but I might have chosen differently if I'd known about it earlier.

Anyone else had a similar experience? I find it difficult to believe a salesman woudn't know the value of his car!

Nice friendly atmosphere here with plenty of Audi owners to help where they can.

Please be sure to give the forum rules a quick view
