Hi guys,

Just bought my second baby

A6 Quattro 3.0 TDI

I trying to find a specialist insurance company as the car is on Polish plates at the minute.

I cannot import the car onto UK plates until the car is insured

Are there any temporary or vin insurance policies available

Can anybody point me in the right direction as I've failed so far to gain insurance

Thanks in advance Stu

No luck from Acorn Insurance, they could not help.

I will endeavour to keep trawling the internet. If anyone has information on vin no. or short term car insurance please let me know.

Thanks Stu

Hi Paul,

Had a reply from them also....

Good morning,

We thank you for your recent correspondence.

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer insurance on these terms, as we can only offer cover to vehicles that are registered in the United Kingdom.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Kind regards,

Take out a policy in Poland on a temporary basis, as we are both (still) part of the EU you may use this to bring it here, register it and get UK based insurance or trailer it over or use one of the many transport companies that operate between the two countries?.

Hi David,

Thanks for the response, but I looked into this.

I would have to register myself there as working or a resident before insurance was issued.

I think I've got round the problem.

I have friend who knows a friend in Poland who is a polish national.

They are going to insure the car in their name in Poland.

Just waiting for them to get back to me with a price.

Then I can transfer it onto UK plates, Happy Days!

Anybody thought I was trying to insure a unicorn or golden goose, the insurance companies were not helpful in any way.

If it wasn't a UK registered vehicle they were not interested at all.

Again, thanks for all your advice guys

Stu

Hi,

Just to let you know we do insure imported vehicles on chassis numbers but we can only offer cover once the vehicle is on the UK mainland. We can't offer any cover to drive a vehicle back from the Continent I'm afraid.

Regards,

Dan.

Many thanks for the update Dan, and to me, that is completely understandable, and hopefully could be a useful principle for anyone who has an imported vehicle 'on UK soil', and needs to progress its registration.

I'm left a little in the dark about this particular vehicle, but perhaps I've missed something with regard to Polish vehicles, the UK, and a Malaga location. Apologies if I have Stuart.

Anyway, many thanks Dan for explaining what is acceptable and what isn't.

Kind regards,

Gareth.
