Remap for fuel consumption helped ?

Hi all

Another day another question

I have a 2.7tdi audi and realising it's very thirsty just about get 380 miles from a full tank if I'm lucky! I am really considering race chip tuning box or remapping for the purpose of fuel consumption  to be better. Has anyone had either done and notice a difference in fuel saving is it worth it as it cost £400-£500 do you actually see a big difference? Any help or experience would help

Much appreciated for your response as usual

Thank you

Hi Yasin,

You'd be better with a remap rather than a chip. The remap can be made to be tailored to your car whereas the chip can't.

The remap will give you more power and torque and potentially better mpg but it all depends whether youll get the initial outlay back in fuel. This will depend on how long you intend to keep the car for.

Also you'll have to notify your insurance company that it's been remapped which may increase your insurance. They may ask you for another £50-£100 which is cost you'll have to factor into the remap/fuel cost dilema. If you don't tell your insurers it's been remapped, then you'll void your insurance.

Cheers

Steve

Hi there,

It's a very broad question to answer - we have a number of modified schemes with insurers and in conjunction with other modifications may well be cheaper than a standard car.   Although if you are with a non-specialist insurer and the BHP increases there may well be an increase in the premium depending on how much the increase is.

Hope that this helps.

Good that you are speaking to an insurer already - I remapped our 1.9 A4 as it was unbelievably lethargic, but then found most insurers wouldn’t touch us. Ended up paying a high premium at a specialist - not Dan’s employer - so there are hidden costs potentially. Well done doing your homework first!

Dont expect massive improvments. 1-2 mpg in reality . It all depends on the driving style and coditions.

I have 3.0tdi quattro and it does around 25mpg city and around 40mpg motorway. Winter its a bit worse, my jurney to work is not long enough for the engine to get up to temperature so mpg is less ...
