Hi All,

I have an A3 2L TDI (170) that recently started developing a ticking/buzzing sound coming from the cam-belt side where the Injection Pump is, you can only ear the sound you rev the engine slightly, a friend of mine who is a mechanic inspected the car and thinks it the high pressure pump making that sound, he told me that it is not that bad for now as the car does not seem to have the symptoms of a failing pump (struggle to start engine, power loss etc...) but that at the some point it will fail. My friend recommended me to go to the diesel specialist Carwood based in Birmingham to have the car diagnosed and potentially fixed as they also re-manufacture pumps.

My car has 105k on clock and is still covered by the 6 month warranty that will pay for up to £500 in repair fees, I don't really know what to expect in term of bills so I was wondering if any of you guys already had to change this part and how much did you have to pay ?

Thanks!

It is important to me as I have had the car less than a month, I like the car but if the bill after the diagnostic is over £200/300 on top of the of the £500 I am entitled to the car will get right back to the dealer it comes from.

I will get a proper diagnostic first to prove I am right (should be covered in the warranty anyway) but if I have to bring it back I am afraid it might be a long process if the dealer refuses to take the car back despite being protected by the Consummer Protection Act.

But thank for your answers Cliff.

Vincent
