Brake servo restricted

I have just had my 2017 A4 serviced at Finchley Road. Two day s later I have had the Brake Servo: restricted message.

I have driven about 25 miles since then in getting back home.

I've found this thread thank goodness and have just been to Audi Oxford to pick up the replacement pressure sensor for £80. I haven't driven the car since and hope it isn't already too late for the ABS, and am going to change it tomorrow.

The guy at Audi Oxford tells me they are selling a lot of these items, just goes to show how common the problem is. Pretty scandalous.

Fingers crossed I'm not too late, but what a great thread!

Fitted the part this morning - a pretty straight forward job after reading this thread and watching a great You Tube video from a guy called Dave Serl (below, others might find it useful). Took abut 4 minutes with a flathead screwdriver to unclip the part.

I had pumped the brake a couple of times with engine off before making the change. There was a slight hiss as I took the old sensor off, but that was it.

Closed bonnet, turned engine on and no more fault warnings, car seems to be running fine, have been for a few miles around the block and no issues so far on brakes, dare I say it all feels normal.

Fingers crossed have avoided destroying my ABS system. I drove about 30 miles after the first warning came on as I was on my way home, braking gently, but did not drive another mile after I parked up.

Goodness knows what might have happened if I'd carried on driving around whilst waiting to get a fix, as per the 'You can continue driving' message. Thanks to this thread I may have saved myself ££££, as I am just out of warranty...!

For £80 the problem seems to have been solved. Hope everyone else avoids the worst as well.

Hi Steve , it’s nowhere to be found buddy , I’m guessing it’s electromagnetic brake servo and if it’s like this , there is nothing I can do 😬 but still I don’t know I can’t find any info anywhere…

Hi.
Does anyone know where the sensor is located in A6 C8? 2019 55 TFSI. I bought the sensor and after getting the order tried to find it inside the car unsuccessfully.

It's so easy on A4 B9, I thought it should be somewhere close...
but I don't even see it...

I had the same issue yesterday. Audi a4 2017 23000 miles, driven regularly. Happened after not using the car for 3 days.

Thanks a lot for all your contributions in this thread!

I just add the worst scenario depicted by all of you. Not only Audi West London quoted 645 pounds to replace the faulty g608 sensor but also found that the ABS unit needs to be replaced as it is now faulty and cannot be recovered. That means another £3,500 on top.

I just sent an email to Audi Customer Service but I wonder if that will lead somewhere. Did anyone had any success with them? I am pondering wheter it makes to take any legal action and if some of you has been succesful. Certainly I will be probably stop being Audi after this.

How long did you drive with the fault?

7 weeks, the time it took to get an appointment at Audi West London - but probably only 300 miles in total. Unfortunately I did not read this post before and relied on my warning message which said that I could continue driving...

Unless you regularly get your car serviced at an Audi dealership, you'll unlikely get any 'goodwill' from them.

If worst comes to worst, you can send the ABS module to a specialist who can repair/reset it for under £500.

I think i've posted the link of a company that does this in this thread (go back a few pages).

I can't vouch for them though as i've never had to use them.

Thanks to everyone on here. Had the same issue with the brake servo sensor. Had driven around 40 miles when I found this forum & immediately parked up. Sensor purchased from eBay from seller German car parts for £15 (euro car parts wanted £134). Watched the youtube fitting guide & only took me 3-4 mins. Started car & hey presto, message has cleared, thanks again.

Just done mine on a 66 plate A4 Avant - £88 from Audi. Kinda wish I got one off eBay for a tenner…

Fingers crossed ABS is still ok - my warning message disappeared after it first appeared so assumed all was ok and carried on driving until it came back on a few weeks later. Then I stopped driving it immediately and replaced the sensor, having found this thread.

Really not impressed with my Audi - great car when it works but there always seems to be something wrong with it!  Last car was a Peugeot 308 and nothing ever went wrong in over over 100k miles/10 years…

Please note that the sensor does not just pull out vertically - there are two clips that need to be released, which is quite a fiddle as it’s dark and a bit restricted access plus I found the wire a bit tricky to remove. Defo recommend watching the video BEFORE attempting it!

Yes, only did a few miles when it happened and it went straight to the garage after that. More cheesed with finding out with what isn’t covered by Big Motoring’s 200 point pre-sale check, but that’s another story.. 😤
