Driver information screen

Hi, I have a 2010 2.0 tdi Sportback with 111000 miles on. Last week the driver info screen went blank and came on and went off again a couple of days later. I have also noticed the fuel gauge lighting flickering sometimes. Has anyone had the same problem. I have purchased a second hand speedo cluster but believe it has to be programmed to the car. Does anyone know of anybody that is able to do this. I await you replies and thank you in advance, regards?

If other VAG group displays are anything to go by then they're notorious for developing dry joints on the PCBs - this can cause all sorts of intermittent and confusing faults.

I'm afraid that I can't offer any practical help, but it is possible to get your existing cluster repaired, companies like BBA Reman offer a good service. Basically they "re-wet" all the soldered joints to ensure good connections.

I had a similar problem with the information screen in an A4 a while ago which was down to dry joints.  I found a guy fairly locally to me that made a fairly good living fixing them so I guess it's a common problem as Rudis_Dad says.  Regards coding though there are plenty of independent VAG specialist garages throughout the country which should be able to deal with any coding needed to fit the replacement, in this case Google is your friend.
