What's the service history on it? Ideally this should be full. Check to see when the Cambelt was changed as it might need changing soon. Also check to see when the gearbox oil was changed. Make sure all electric items work. Also if it's got quattro make sure the tyres are worn evenly. A d ideally same make. Also check YouTube for buyers guides.

I was told to make sure that the tyres were the same across each axle and about the same wear. I wanted to replace one on my 2015 S8 and the garage said to change both. The other side didn’t have a massive amount of life left and so I did. Something to do with the tyres having the same radius and not confusing the ABS or something. Don’t quote me on that but there was a reason.

I also had exactly the same question as poster. Looking to pick up 2014 S8 with 58K on clock. Youtube - lot of conflicting advice. Are there any recommendations for a vid that you agree on main points? its coming from a main dealer so I wanted to check that the main things had been done before purchase (or ask them to do it). From What I've read so far need to check SH to see if timing belt has been done & gearbox oil. Spark plugs / any coolant leak, turbo supply lines and filter. Silly question  - is there a seperate oil filter for the turbos or is this just the one oil filter - so check when this was last replaced.

All electric switches etc. working etc. & make sure tyres are evenly worn / same brand.

Have I missed anything?

Now to find a good Audi Specialist near me (Sandhurst).

I can add that my 2015 S8 has been subject to two recalls since I’ve owned it. The sump shield and oil strainers for the turbos. Check these have been done if needed. My Sat Nav had never been updated which cost £280 and I’ve had the oil pressure sensor fail in the rear diff. Apart from that it’s been excellent so far. So fast and yet as smooth as silk.

Hello Henry,

I guess you have checked the on-line MOT history. Also worth checking - in my book- is how long the previous owner has owned it. Short ownership is often not a good sign.
Have you actually seen a print out of the service history?
Albeit an S8, I’m surprised a main dealer is retailing a 9 year old car.
What warranty are you getting with the car?
Kind regards,

Gareth.
