 This is my very first audi I have ever had. I’ve been driving for 18 years. All I have had is bad luck so one month after buying the vehicle the DPF light came on . It went into limp mode .I had no idea what a dpf was  ! since this happened  , I’ve learnt lot about DPfs . Basically it got blocked and I paid to have it unblocked problem when away. I had a full Service also done on the vehicle. About a week after having a full service the DPF light came on again even though I have been taking the car in Long Journeys occasionally the light still came on and it blocked again put my car into limp mode. I took the car to the garage who serviced it and they advised me that I needed a new DPF. I then paid out £1200 for a new DPF to be installed the carjourneys occasionally the light still came on and it blocked again put my car into limp mode. I took the car to the garage who serviced it and they advised me that I needed a new DPF. I then paid out £1200 for a new DPF to be installed in the car this took them all day………,! Problem solved. A couple weeks later the DPF light has came on again. So I took it for a drive to try and get the light off the light went off black smoke came out the back and then the coil light started to flash and then it went into limp mode again. I took the car to the garage I’m so angry. The mechanic got the car out of limp mode took it for a drive and said there was nothing wrong. I have since then had to take it back for a second time to ask him to get the car out of limp mode . This is stressing me out I feel as though the problem is not being addressed and it’s just getting worse . maybe it didn’t need a new DPF in the beginning,?? I have asked the mechanic if he checked the sensors ect . He said he had checked everything else?? If it does it again I’m taking it down there straight away. I am a support worker and this is taking up so much of my time.I really don’t know what to do about this car If it does it again whilst I’m out of town , limp mode is so hard work .🤦‍♀️. I am a support worker and this is taking up so much of my time,. I really don’t know what to do about this car. ???Can anyone help me please????????

Hi was it an O.E DPF, genuine Audi, if it was aftermarket they do tend to block up more often as they are a smaller unit and have a Cordierite core instead of a Silicon Carbide core, ask the garage if they have VCDS as that will tell you how many regenerations the DPF has had since fitting, my guess is its not regenerating because the garage has not done the appropriate re adadaption of the new unit or its a wrong un, only other solution is get the DPF mapped out and gutted.

Louise.

It is not clear how many DFPs you have fitted as some text is duplicated. Nevertheless DPFs, whether aftermarket or genuine Audi, do not need to be replaced every few weeks unless something else is seriously wrong with your engine. I believe whatever garage you have been to is taking advantage of your lack of knowledge, an attitude I thought had died out in relation to women.

I suggest you get the engine and exhaust assessed by somebody knowledgable about Audis. I wish I could recommend Audi main dealers, but I can not. I think you will be better served by an independent Audi specialist. If you are prepared to travel to Biddenden for this I can recommend this place

https://www.dpfrepair.co.uk/audi-a3-dpf-repair-in-castleford/

interesting as i did not know what a dpf was.

i do now ,found this link which you should find of some use..

if the link dont work i have reiterated what it says.

AUDI A3 DPF REPAIR in Castleford.

regeneration guide

bring engine up to temperature

ensure quarter tank of fuel ( (assume this to stop sucking up any sludge in tank) my remark)

drive at 50mph for 30 minutes

when regen is complete light goes out.

no suggestion of buying a new DPF unit for £1200

just needs the crap burning off through a good run.

forgot to mention i use a fuel additive and have never regretted it.

my car has done 150k when i bought it, and it smoked, since the additive its like another engine , well impressed.

the additive i use is called MAXIMUS for diesal.

good deals on line as well.

Hi spot on ken I have been using it predecessor for years and Maximus when it first appeared a couple of years ago, I know people think you are talking out of the wrong end when I mention this stuff but I have covered over 600k using this stuff and it does exactly what it says it will, as one of the Hydra techs explained, it won't cure a terminal problem knackered EGR/DPF but its regular use on a healthy car may well prevent those problems occurring prematurely.
