What Brake Discs and Pads

Hi all

2011 Q5 8R 3.0 TDI with 345mm discs, I am looking at MTEC for discs (I have run them on my other cars and they've been great). I have tried Audi for a part number but my dealer says they don't give part numbers so struggling to find which discs I need. I need to know if the hubs are tapered or non tapered as MTEC do both and they obviously can't tell me which I need. Now any other supplier in the world doesnt ask this question so not sure why they do.

I'm also looking at YellowStuff pads but again were at a disagreement on which EBC Part reference I should be getting.

Any other suggestions please let me know.

Thanks all

James

Hello James,

Many thanks for joining and posting your plea.
I don’t stand in defence of main dealers, but why would they take the trouble to supply you with part numbers if you are not going to buy anything from them? They might claim that if they gave you the wrong information, then they stand a comeback, whereas if they supplied you with the part you ask for, then if they supply the wrong one, they simply exchange it for the correct one.
Pretty understandable I think.
You could try TPS ( but in my experience they only talk with account holders - but branches may differ?). You could ask them for a part schematic which usually shows the part number.
Good luck and kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth

My car background is BMW and RealOEM is something I have gotten very used to. I understand what you’re saying but we have already bought the really expensive part and there’s a customer service element to being a dealer? Discs from Audi were £332, literally day light robbery, they did have them in stock though! 😄

Sorry for my ignorance but what’s TPS?

Thanks again

James

Thanks James,

Trade Parts Supplies (Specialists?) - specialists in VAG parts.
Still dealing with non account holders?? Possibly not.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

I have been using REDSTUFF low dust pads for years on OEM rotors.

The stopping is better than OEM pads and as it claims, low dust.

From what I’ve read there’s really not much difference in the red and yellow compounds, the general consensus is the reds a harder compound but is advertised as low dust so makes sense!

Hi its Trade Parts Services and the reason they won't give you part numbers is in case you go elsewhere and  buy discs etc. from a cheaper source, basically any motor parts seller can get the right discs from your VIN or REG as most of them have access to ETKA the VAG parts system just like the one I have. Its got nothing to do with comeback on a dealer.

Thanks Steve.
I always thought that it was Trade Parts Supplies, but looked it up and it seemed to say ….Specialists - anyway TPS will find it!
Definitely account holders only now?

Appreciating what you say about on line/ local factors having access to all the data, I still come across examples where they want part nos., and getting that information isn’t easy. As you rightly say- of course we can understand main dealers simply not wanting to provide owners with part numbers, so they can go and buy them elsewhere - I wouldn’t if I was a dealer - but cannot argue with the OP’s views re customer service. ….
Kind regards,

Gareth.
