Hi, I have had my Allroad A4 from new, now 8 years old and just clicked over the 100,000 mark. Nothing has gone wrong to date, however, thinking of giving it a treat, cambelt and water pump, gearbox (DSG) oil change and maybe pollen filter (not sure why?) anything else you would recommend. Brakes OK by the way

Hi Derek. Assuming that you have had it regularly serviced, check that the brake fluid has been changed. Are you doing this your self, as I have just had my cam belt and water pump replaced by my friendly Audi dealership and it was £915.

Tony

I have had a quote from a VW/Audi specialist in Peterborough (independent) for around £550 which seemed reasonable, unfortunately do not have the skill to do it myself

Hello Derek,

Have you previously had the cambelt and water pump changed on the car.
Pollen filter changed every two years?
Kind regards,

Gareth.

This will be the first time the belt has been changed, never had the pollen filter changed so that will also be a first. On a similar note I have never had the spark plugs changed so may ask for those to be replaced. I have, however, regularly had the oil and filter changed and replaced the brakes all round. I didn't go for the emissions update and I don't intend to. I have had the brake fluid replaced, not sure how many times.

Thanks Derek,

Your cambelt is well overdue - it should have been changed when the car was 5 year old.
Not sure who services your car, but generally the pollen filter would be changed every two years, and personally I change the air filter with the same frequency.
Plugs? Some change every 60K miles.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi, I have had the air filter changed a couple of times and to be fair to the Audi garage they have said I need the pollen filter changing on a couple of occasions and they did say the cambelt was due, I have mainly focussed on oil and filter, brakes and tyres (use Michelin cross climate and they have been terrific). I said spark plugs, however, I of course meant glow plugs, I guess I ought to change them as well. The car runs like its brand news so I also want to be careful I don't 'upset' anything!

Hi Derek.

I am concerned for you and your car. As the car is more than 5 years old and has done 100k miles the cam belt is well over due. If it did break or shred it can cause catastrophic damage to the engine. The £600 to £1000 pounds to replace it is much cheaper than the £6000 to replace the engine.

Agreed, will get it done

Where in lincs are you?

I'm not sure if i can mention names, but there is a Audi VW specialist in Lincoln.  I personally highly rate them.  Good service, great price, uses OEM parts (can use other branded parts if you ask).

As mentioned by the guys above, really surprised you haven't done the cam belt.

Also, the DSG service, have you had it done?  Not sure the recommended service timings, but i get my DSG/s-tronic service at the intervals.

Also, also, if it is an Allroad, i'm guessing it is Quattro?  sorry, i don't know this model well.  Quattro service?  Does it need one?

Treat your car, and do it all.  Will give you another 100k.

Hello Derek,

No offence meant, but being direct:- it appears that you have been as economical as you possibly can be on a comprehensive and complete servicing schedule, even ‘declining’ necessary suggested servicing requirements.
OK, you’ve appeared to have got away with it ( so far) but it’s now pay up time - or continue to gamble.
Apologies for the slight disagreement with Tony’s suggested cost if the belt goes, but I would have thought £6000 to replace the engine would be a (gross?) underestimate.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi, thanks for recommendation, I do have the oil changed in the DSG gearbox and intend to get it done again as mentioned above, I need to check my manual, however, pretty sure Audi's own recommendation for a A4 allroad is something just over 100k, 115k I think, will need to dig it out and check, regardless intend to get it done as part of the '100k treat' I intend to give the car

Hi, Good point, doubt the car would fetch much more than the cost of an engine replacement so definitely do not want that happening.

Out of interest, I have now had the 100k mile treat for my car done by Quattro Tech of Peterborough and was extremely pleased with both the company and the cost. They changed the cam belt and water pump, oil in the DSG gearbox, all main filters (pollen, air and oil), undertook a major service and changed the headlamp bulbs for nightbreakers. In addition they did a full health check of all the cars major components, (brakes, suspension, fluids etc)(all green) annual MOT and it came in around the £1150 mark. Driven 4k miles since and as mentioned, very pleased.
