Upgrade to MMI 3 & Honeycomb Grill

Hi All,

New here! Just purchased a 2019 A5 S Line 40 TFSI and should be collecting it next week. I am upgrading from a 2017 Skoda Superb Sportline. I settled on the 2019 model for a great price and thought it could be a little project.

That being said, it currently has Virtual Cockpit and MIB 2 High (I believe, not sure on screen size as I've not seen the car in person yet) - However, I know I'm going to miss the touch screen from the Superb so was looking to upgrade this to the new MIB 3 with the touch screen. It looks do-able as the old and new cars pretty much have the same interior and the mounting points for the screen look the same. Does anyone happen to have a parts list for this? I can find various MIB units on eBay but not sure exactly what I will need other than the MIB unit, screen, centre console cover (for removing the touch pad and buttons) but not sure if anything else is required.

Also, much prefer the honeycomb grill over the old style with the horizontal lines so planning to get that replaced as well - again I can find the parts on eBay but dont know any companies who would be able to replace it for me so any suggestions would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Dan

Grill from TVP

The badge from your existing grill will not fit. You'll need the 285mm version.

Here's a useful video:

It makes me cringe when they peel back the arch liner because they are very stiff. I'd put some masking tape on the edge of the wing lip so to avoid scraping the paint off and rusty arches later. Or you could take the wheel off and remove it completely because they drop out once all the fasteners have been released.

The interesting part is under that foam crash bar cover will most likely be a flexible hose for the 'pedestrian protection system', so you can't remove it. Instead, you will need to cut the foam to suit the geometry of the new grill, and add cut outs for the parking sensors (and camera if you have one). A long super sharp knife, heat gun and patience are required. If you mess it up, it's only £30 for a new one from Audi.

Some people have reported issues with the camera angle on some grill designs, so be sure yours is OK before getting heavy with the glue.

And lastly, don't forget to plug in your parking sensor to the loom on the car.

For what it's worth, the spinning knob thingy for the screen in terms of ergonomics and functionality is great.

I "simulated" touching my screen this morning and didn't approve 😄

Hi jdragon,

I happen to have bought the grille you recommend here also... but no rings as you point out.  The link you posted for the rings has gone, any ideas on an alternative? I'm a bit stuck here!

Hi,

I have a 2017 A5 coupe and would also like to get a gloss black honeycomb grill but don't fancy trying the installation myself, does anyone know of any companies that will install or supply and install the grill?

I am based in the West Midlands.

Thanks

Dan
