Audi TT servicing

Hi,

My TT is now out of warranty so I have been looking into servicing  at an independent  garage.

Can anybody  tell me where I can get a list of all the items that are checked/replaced at a service.

Also, when does the gearbox oil needs changing, when does the timing chain/belt (which is it on 2 litre coupe) need changing, when do the spark plugs need changing?

Any recommendations  for an independent garage Stockport  area?

Appreciate  any help. Thanks

Hello James,

Welcome and thanks for joining.

SteveQ posted a service schedule about a month? ago, so if you  want the ‘recommended’ then that should suffice. You’ll find it via. a search for his posts.

My impression was that it leaned towards the minimum level of maintenance rather then the best-for-the car. My feeling is that this schedule is biased towards ensuring that dealers have minimum servicing commitment in favour of maximising rewards from service plans etc., but this could be considered cynical.

It’s worth having reading those posts before coming back to us and letting us know what your annual mileage will be, and we should be able to advise on a good plan for you.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hello James,

Post was by poster Ozz on 22 Jan. Title - A1 ……..Service Schedule. I think the post may have been duplicated around the same time.

Perhaps you could have a read of the responses and let us know how you feel in relation to the recommendations and comments made.
You didn’t tell us what your anticipated annual mileage will be - all important.
Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi Gareth,

Thanks again for the information.

I don't know if the A1 schedule  is the same as a TT.

I am still looking for a list of items checked / replaced.

I have a list for USA vehicles  but I am not happy to rely on it due to their  weather conditions.

The car has done 9k miles in 3 years.

Why is there such a problem with the manufacturers not making this info readily  available. I have spoken to Audi UK HQ to no avail. The local dealer is a waste  of time.

Kind regards

James

Thanks James,

Yes, appreciate that schedule is not for a TT, but the TT is likely to follow a very similar schedule, and I can’t see you going far wrong by assuming similar work being done.
Can I ask you how many (Audi?) services has the car had in its first 3 years, and what have been the invoice-listed parts renewed during these services.

Averaging 3K miles/annum is going to be hard on any car, unless this mileage is covered by infrequent longish journeys, so an annual servicing routine sounds the way to go.
My guess is that this car has never had an air filter change, might have had a pollen filter, possibly a brake fluid change ( or is due for one) and in effect has only had its oil and filter changed on x occasions.
Having said all that, if you are going to entrust it’s future servicing to an independent, then they will check and renew everything the main dealer would, so in effect you don’t need to know what they do, no more than you did with the earlier main dealer servicing.
Now if you want to do this servicing yourself, then you are absolutely right in taking advice on exactly what you need to do.
Perhaps you could let us know what you decide James.

Kind regards,

Gareth.

Hi James, my idea of a service is oil and filter, air filter, pollen filter, fuel filter, plugs, if this is done once a year you won't go far wrong for the following reasons, plugs tend to degrade over short milage, air and fuel filters suffer the same, if you don't use anything other than premium fuel they may last longer but we have all of a sudden come from 6k or yearly service to 18k or every three years, this is all to make the car appear super cheap to run, then we have service plans which don't cover fuel filters and air filters, they might change the oil filter with the oil if you are lucky, main dealers are thieving scum, find a good independent and tell them what you want done, there are loads of posts on this forum from people who have dealership service history who have decided to have a go at changing their own air filter [simple] and found more dead leaves in the housing than are in your local park, over the years I have had more than enough arguments with main dealers over shoddy servicing, thats why I do my own at least I know its right.

Steve.

Hi Gareth,

I list below the FSH of the vehicle.

Delivery Inspection  by selling dealer 6-1-2020. Miles 0

Flexible oil change by Audi dealer 17-5-2021. Miles 4937

Inspection  by Audi dealer 30-12-2021. Miles 6704

Brake fluid  changed by Audi dealer 30-12-2021. Miles 6704

Pollen filter changed by Audi dealer 7-1-2022. Miles 6746

Inspection with oil change(flexible) by independent  garage specialising in VAG 17-2-2023. Miles 9160. They reset the service indicator  for 2 years approx but pointed out the brake fluid should  be  changed in January 2024.

I would like to know the items that should be checked/replaced for my own education  but also for the independent that will carry out future services. Yes, the independent  which did the last service specialises in VAG but I am not sure I will be using in the future. In my origin post I asked for recommendations  for a local garage. One was mentioned  in Cheadle but it has closed.

Kind regards

James

Hi Steve,

Thanks for your reply.

I agree with the items you  mention but it's the other bits I don't know about eg gearbox oil change, air con, timing belt.

Kind regards

James

Hi belt should be every four years or 80k + ancillary drive belt every 30k or two years, gearbox oil every three years or 30k, all the above are whichever time/milage occurs first, aircon every two years with regard to exceptionally hot summers like last year.

Steve.
