  4. Hello Joel, Can I say it as I see it? You are trying to convince yourself that all maybe (in caps) alright, without evidence that it is. In reality, everything you now say are assumptions, and we all know what that word can be broken down to. The car hasn’t really had the best of servicing with the last owner, but only to the bare minimum requirement. Extended warranty?? Yes of course you can pay c£1,500 over 3 years for a warranty - with you paying the first £250 of each and every claim - and locked in to paying Audi servicing charges?? A warranty maybe a handy backstop to have, but every claim comes with hassle and the inevitable ‘it’s wear and take and not covered’. Again, saying it as I see it, I wouldn’t be surprised if you convince yourself to buy it. Please bare in mind that you will hopefully get other opinions on here. Kind regards, Gareth. Gareth.

  5. My local Audi is in Worthing (Roundstone). Tell your Audi Service Dept that Audi have issued a bulletin (March 2024) regarding this fault and that it has nothing to do with the stop/start generator. If they find nothing then ask them to get in touch with Audi Worthing for details. The cost of the repair (parts/labour/VAT) was around £200. Hope this is the "fix" for your fault.

Saying it as it is, the only clue you give us is that it’s a stop/start battery, and regrettably you have chosen/can’t be bothered to, either give your name, model of car or your location. As one of the other moderators often says ‘ we are a friendly and helpful group’, and indeed we are, but….. help yourself to gain the help you need! Rant over, except a please or thank you wouldn’t’ go amiss. Answer - almost certainly yes.

  7. Hi its the thermostat on the water pump that controls the engine temp the other one before the the heater is the one that controls the cabin temp, if that one is playing about all your hot water flies through the bypass system. Steve.

  9. Update - solved the issue. Upon reading other threads I checked the ABS wheels speed sensors on all 4 corners. The front passengers side sensor was damaged. A break in the sensor case was letting water into it. I’ve replaced the sensor and the faults have all gone away. It was a bit of a pig to change as it’d melted into the bearing housing. Quite a coincidence that the wheel bearing was changed by the garage a few weeks before all these faults started appearing.

Hmm, been following this thread with interest, in a previous life I was a naval engineer, so I’m very aware of just how corrosive salt water can be, even over a short time and of course vented discs have an ‘inside’ that you can’t see, that’s corroding away merrily that close to the sea. ceramic discs will stop it all. Coated discs, as Charles said, if it’s just a surface treatment, it clearly won’t survive as a surface very long and will then allow the swept surface of the disc to corrode, but, as it’s the swept area, there’ll still be the nasty grinding noises when you 1st use the brakes. the coating, assuming it covers 100% of the entire disc (inside & out), would still stop those areas corroding but at a much lower cost. depends how much the grinding gets on your nerves. be interesting to see how you get on if you go for the coated discs, I’m fairly close to the coast (7 miles) but it’s not too bad here for salt spray etc, we get some, but only in high winds & storms.

  13. Thanks yes, saw that thread. It seems a common issue with the C7, they like to let water in as much as possible. Further investigation this evening and I narrowed down the leak. See the picture attached, but the leak is coming through a seam in the side wall. Circled the area in red. I have sealed this area with Gorilla waterproof patch & seal tape. I removed the Voltage stabiliser unit to dry it out, and also moved the wiring loom for the Voltage Stabiliser unit up and back out of the spare wheel well up into the area where the main fuse board unit is. I hope that these two actions will cure the problem.

Looks like its sorted , I thought I would check the connections around the ECU so removed the bulkhead trim and found about 6mm of silt / gunge in the area below the ECU , the drain was blocked and whole area looked damp , after clearing silt and unblocking drain I dried the whole area with electrical solvent . 10 minutes later all warning light went out and have not reappeared and that was 3 days ago, so hopefully

  16. Hi Charles, Instead of ceramic, look at 'coated' rotors/discs. I know exactly what you are saying about the discs with slight surface rust every morning.   17. OK - mystery solved !!! Initial diagnostics pointed to a faulty stop/start generator (AKA Alternator). A replacement was ordered and required shipping from Germany as none in the UK. The part was delivered and then an instruction received by my Audi garage NOT TO FIT THE PART and run another check - per Audi instructions. This new check indeed revealed the root cause of the problem that I have been experiencing. The problem was due to a defective Auxiliary Belt Tensioner. Required parts were fitted and included a replacement belt - this was more a precaution than requirement as the defective belt tensioner may have contributed to premature excessive wear. I insisted that the car was taken for an extensive test drive before taking it back. All was well - and still is. I now have the car back (after 2-3 weeks off the road while awaiting parts). Will monitor the situation, but reasonably confident that this time Audi have got it right.

Thank you for sharing the experiences of other Audi owners and taking time to review this in your own time. While I fully appreciate your experience, I am unable to predict future faults of the car. I would like to assure you that we have fully taken on board your comments and viewpoints regarding your most recent experience. Please rest assured, your thoughts and suggestions will be fed back to our design team regarding the alert messages on the dashboard. Often changes are made off the back of customer comment and feedback. While we are unable to change what has happened, we can definitely restore your faith by offering a gesture to recognise your experience. Therefore, please can you advise what we can do for you? Please note, any escalations to Audi Germany will be redirected back to the UK team, i.e the Executive Office as your vehicle is UK registered, therefore will faull under our jurisdiction. I await your response. Dear Feranza, Thank you for your response but I am still not getting a straight answer. Firstly, I do not know if there is a misunderstanding but I am not expecting you to predict future faults in my car. I accept faults and components fail from time to time. My whole argument is the lack of warning from the vehicle to the driver. My question remains unanswered ‘ Why does Audi think it unnecessary to provide a ‘no charge’ indication? You indicate that Audi UK have taken on board my comments and suggestions but the car is designed in Germany. Can you tell me if Markus Duesmann is still with the Group or has Gernot Dollner taken his place ? Have my comments been sent to either of these two gentlemen? From what I understand there maybe up to 50,000 vehicle in the UK which could suffer similar faults. If this is the case what is the Board of Management responsible for Technical Development and Product Lines in Audi AG doing about it, or going to do about it? You tell me that even if I write to the Board of Management my communication will come back to Audi UK, because my vehicle is UK registered. However these faults are appearing in Audis all over the world which were designed in Germany. Until I have a positive response that Audi AG know about this and are taking positive action I consider that direct communication with Audi AG is the only way of obtaining straight answers. Thank you for continuing to ask me what financial gesture would placate me, however that is secondary to obtaining a positive answer that AUDI AG are developing a fix which will be available within a reasonable timescale. In the meantime it would be appreciated if you could provide me with the email address for the PA of the person who now has Board responsibility.

  19. Hell Kendal Steve, The two stumbling blocks here, are surface cleanliness of the mating surfaces, and the ‘quality’ of the adhesive to use. The likelihood is that you won’t be able to buy an economical small quality of the necessary professional adhesive, and any attempt to use a sub standard product will result in an almost impossible situation to retrieve. If this were mine, I would be searching for Classic Car Trimmers in the area, and seeking advice there. We all like to DIY things, but I fear this is one job where specialist materials will be required. Kind regards, Gareth.

Hi folks, Ive still got a set of 4 OEM 17” Double spoke Alloys from my previous 2004 Allroad sat in my garage taking up space. they’re in almost perfect condition with only 1 wheel picking up a stone chip. (I’d had them refurbished a few months before I sold the car - timing chan started rattling, on the V8, that’s a £6k engine out job!) Can’t recall the offset but I think it’s different to the standard C5. FREE to collector- BS22 9QJ may be able to transport to various mid to southern England places or close as I get around a bit paddling.

  23. Could be the ECU and the only way you'll know is sending it off for repair. You might be able to buy a second hand one from eBay but it must be the exact same part number. Then the imobiliser will need to be removed from it or recoded to work for your car.

  28. Sorry all, should have posted this weeks ago but been busy helping mum, the lift in her flats is busted so she can’t get out! I cleaned the narrow trough the wind deflector seal sits in with cotton buds and glass cleaner (no residue). there are 2 small (about 1 1/2” long) leaf springs (1 either side), that help push the wind deflector up into position when you open the roof, there are 2 holes in the roof cassette under each of them as well, so they got the same treatment. the 2 coil springs (1 each side again), are a bit tricky to remove / replace but a bit of care and patience worked the 2nd time!🤦🏻‍♂️ I managed to drop the sides of the headliner but couldn’t release the front, so I could only reach in underneath for about 8”, I taped up the holes over the 1st 8” from each side of the car in the seal trough from underneath (bit tricky with tight access, best option I found was to use small bits of tape (about 1-2” long) on the end of 2 fingers!), then applied a generous squirt of black silicone adhesive sealant into the bits of the trough I’d taped up, refitted the leaf springs and wind deflector, (I used a couple of bits of wood to tap the seal down into the trough against the pressure of the silicone) and left it for 24hrs before testing with a watering can! make sure the seal sits right down into the trough, as I don’t think there’s much clearance when the roof closes. it’s worked though, no more water getting in. hipe this helps.

Boiling this down:- You aren’t now doing much mileage, yet you are considering putting considerable funds into buying more modern examples - which overall don’t seem to tick the boxes for you. H Hi Gareth is spot on there is another guy on here at this very moment, Will Stevens having holy hell with his extended warranty, every time he goes in THE COMPUTER SAYS NOT covered, Audi could not guarantee a funeral plan once they have your money possession is nine tenths of the law, looking at the dynamics of it full service history should mean a clear and transparent history from day one, they certainly new what they were doing when they abandoned service history books.   34. Hello Joel, Welcome and thanks for joining. Am I reading this incorrectly? To me, it seems it hasn’t had any (recorded) servicing until it was 2.25 years old, and had covered 26k miles, and this was only an Inspection service. It then gets its first oil service when it’s near to 3 years old, and covered just under 30k. All of the above was under the first owner - on PCP for a bet! It’s the ‘I’m not keeping it, so I don’t care’ syndrome. It then moves to its second owner who covers 20k miles on a flexible service plan ( oil changes around every 18k type service) and gets one oil service in that time. Is this car being advertised with Full Service History? If so, then that’s really taking artistic licence! If it isn’t, then to be fair, the seller isn’t making any unreasonable claims about its servicing history. If I was in your situation, then I would be walking away from this.   36. Just as an aside to my recent post on our road trip to Germany, thought I would like to just make a comment on Audi build quality verses other premium German makes. Whilst there,my Missus and I were invited out to a restaurant one evening by a good long standing German mate and his wife. We were staying in a hotel near the small town of Aerzen in Lower Saxony and the restarant chosen was located in the city of Hamelyn about 15 miles away....so a reasonable drive there and back. Our friend works for Britas, the water purifcation and the Company has recently suplied him with a new model C class Mercedes. It was ablack Estate model and I think badged c180D Our friend was rightly proud of it and it had most of the bells and whistles that all recent cars now have. Big tablet type screen in the middle that controls almost all functions, cameras and fancy lights with shutters. And it was pretty quiet too for a diesel engined car and had a reasonable amount of torque. However, the abiding memory for me as I sat in the passenger seat was how poor the build quality was compared to my Audi. And I know the 2 cars are in difeerent price ranges but I truly believe, being in quite a few model Audis from A3's to A6's that the integrity of the build in the entire Audi range is on a much higher level than the stuff Mercedes puts out The Mercedes switch gear was flimsy and made of cheap plastic, the doors must weigh half the weight of the Audi door. They shut with a terrible metallic clang. The door releases were cheap and plastic and the fancy round air vents were flimsy an didnt work with decent precision So, in my opinion.....and it is only a personal opinion, I think the Audi brand build quality far surpasses Mercedes and BMW at the moment. Which is a good job really as all of us here chose Audi eh !!! Oh and I didnt let on to our friend. The car was his choice and he was mightily proud of it and if we all chose the same brand car it would be a pretty boring world out there.

  40. Hello John, To answer your question on topping up, you need to buy a small quantity of pink OAT (concentrated) coolant and mix it 50/50 with water, and use this to top up when cold. If you are uncertain, you will not do any harm topping up with water, until you establish where the leak is - and it’s important that you find that leak site.   41. Not sure whether anyone will be interested in this but I just thought I would post my musings on our 4 week tour to Germany in our Q8. We just returned on Wednesday after crossing over on the Shuttle four weeks ago and making our way to Dortmund for our first overnight stop . Then we headed south to the little town of Parsbeg in Bavaria whjre we stayed for several days. Then up into the mountains of Bavaria to stay at Berchtesgaden for 5 days. We then crossed back to Berlin for a few days and then onto the wonderful city of Dresden where we stayed for a week. Finally we headed to a favourite Schlosshotel of ours in Lower Saxony whe re we stayed for 8 days. And then a leisurely drive heading for home for the same overnight in Dortmund before we spent 3 days in the little Belgian town of Ypres. I have a great Uncle who is buried in the Commonwealth War Graves Cemery at Tyne Cot. If anyone wants to visit a site that will take your breath away visit this cemetry. The number of young British Tommies buried here who perished in the mud of Paschendale wil make you weep . I have to say that although my missus and I have been touring Germany in the car for many years the road network of the country has deteriated a little in the last few years. Not so much you understand as the apalling state that the UK roads are in now. Many more speed restrictions and repairs on their Autobahn sytem now. However the overiding opinion was that their autobahns, their A and B roads are still in a superb state compared to our roads. Great signage,billiard smooth surfaces, well engineered cambers etc. Also the standard of driving on the Autobahns is so much higher than here. Precise signalling to either come out in a lane or back in again and an almost 100 % compliance to speed restrictions . The only thing I would say is that if you do get in the big boys outside lane on the unrestricted stuff to overtake slower traffic, even though you are probably doing 120 mph, the fast boys behind doing 140/150 plus will try to bully you to get back inside ! And also just maybe the UK registration and sticker does provoke some just a tad ! The car went well. We ticked over from 8000 miles to over 1000. Comfortable and just about fast enough. We had theusual software gliches that any Audi owber recognises nowadays. Lost the top screen one time as it just got stuck trying to initialsie. Then I lost my user identity " thingy " at start up one time so when I started the car my preference didnt kick in. Nothing too nasty and all sorted by a quick reboot by starting the car up again. The most annoying thing was a repeated loud bong and red warning triangle and exclamation mark in the drivers panel warninf of " limited visibilty " ! This came onquite a few times on the Autobahn when the minimum visibilty was at the very least 300 metres and more. God bless the EU eh in forcing he manufacturers in giving us that.   44. Hi, I have tried many different ideas to stop water getting into the boot cavity. So, I recently covered all the joints between the boot liner and the boot with duct tape and left it for several weeks. Great, no water in the cavity. During the recent weeks I have started removing sections of the tape to see when the leak started again. This process took a while to do. I have now only tape on the side of the boot and around the rear of the light cluster, see photos. We’ve had no rain of late so will remove one of these and see what happens when it rains again. So far, no water in the cavity. Anybody who tries this, and it works, or doesn’t please let me know. Regards Ian IMG_0830.HEIC IMG_0958.HEIC

  45. Hello David, Welcome and thanks for joining. You are in grave danger of kissing goodby to your Audi’s warranty on your one year old car, by attempting to service the car yourself. I’m not sure if you own the car outright, or have it on something like a PCP, but whatever, the car will be deemed to have incomplete service history, and will be devalued accordingly. Sorry to point out that if you don’t know what oil to use, then you are not in a good place to start anyway. Adblue from Aldi’s? Same principle applies if you have to argue any warranty.
