Hello all, my mechanic believes that if I keep my ECU and injectors and put it in a 2.5tdi that has different engine code then the car should work fine as the imobiliser/ECU will think it's the old engine.

I know the Ake and bau are different heads but would the 150bhp and 163bhp engines have the similar design to aym. As such would this work just adding my ECU and injectors to the different engine code. Then I wouldn't needs to code the pump ect.

Would it also work for bau or Ake even though heads are different?

Just want full clarity before I buy any engine as I'm still under the impression the injection pump, instrument cluster and ECU have to match.

I'm tearing my hair out now as I just want the A6 back running so any help will be appreciated.

Hi Steve your mechanic is correct, due to Audis practise of using the same engine but putting different emissions gear on them and giving the engine a different designation you are almost certain to be successful as the basic block will be the same as will the heads, if you look at the engines for my A6 CNHA most of the parts were common to the DETA,DDDA,same engine different horsepower which is controlled by the ECU, ergo unless the engine has a mind of its own it will wait for the ECU to tell it what to do.

Hello all I have very strange problem with my Audi a3 1.6tdi it starts up fine in the morning but randomly cuts out this could be after 5 mins or sometimes even up to an hour later weather it’s sat idle or driving so when the cuts out it’s like all the dashboard goes blank no lights I have power to windows still and when you turn the key fully back to position 1 and to ignition again the dashboard still has no lights until you do this couple times when dash lights do come back on and try starting it won’t turn over you have to wait for 5-10 mins then eventually it will turn over and start again.

so please anyone else that has encountered similar issue and found out what is I would like to hear from you thanks all

Hi I would get it scanned for fault codes, it may be an immobiliser problem.

    Hello Steve,

I have found out that the throttle body is losing power so having to take it in to the Audi specialist to fixed this.

Hi sorry to hear of your woes, I would definitely look at OBD eleven it will give you better scope to at least identify your problems and as code readers go its cheap.

    Thanks for that.

Can this be done using VCDS and if so, do you happen to know a rough stepbystep process - I'm going to pass this onto my garage in case they are unaware - I'm not a user of VCDS myself.

My sensor has been changed and still getting the same fault code, so worth a try, thanks

Hi yes it can be done with VCDS you have to go into basic settings and scroll through the menu it will have a box for re adaptation for your sensor, might be nice if you can tell us which one was changed?

    Hello,

First time poster here, I’ve had my Audi A3 V8 for two years now (66plate) it’s been perfect but the last week a few faults have occurred and my EPC light is on on the dash board.

First fault code - B105313 - GSM Antenna Open circuit.

i have no idea what this is or means, could anyone give any advice?

Second fault code - U11B800 - Interface for external media - no communication.

if I am thinking right this means the USB ports in the car, I have no idea why this has just suddenly stopped working as I have never used them, I don’t even use the media, I just listen to the radio so this has stumped me.

My check engine light has come on as well (Yellow version)

I understand this was down to having low oil in the car but I got it serviced this morning and I am still having the issue, I have no power when driving and the revs are taking ages to catch up. The fault reader isn’t showing any codes for this which I am confused about.

Has anybody had these issue before that could lead me in the right direction,

    Thank you for your help.

Hi I am thinking water has ingress under the antenna on the roof as for the fault codes for the rest of the car most of these are better read by VCDS, obd eleven or similar,

Hi, what does "re adapt" mean here, and what is involved?

    In my case it's a 2015 A3 2.0 Tdi 8V CUNA engine.

Is it meaning that, once you fit the replacement sensor, there is some jiggerypokery to do on VCDS to get the ECU to acknowledge the new sensor?

    Thanks

Hi it means in simple terms re adapt this is the process of telling the ECU that it has a new sensor that will read differently from the old one, therefore the term re learning its values therefore giving the ECU the correct information within its operating strategy.

    Hi

Long story short I PCP'd an A4 back in 2017 and sold it in 2021. I've had a VW Tiguan on PCP since but decided I preferred my A4 and didn't want to be on PCP anymore so I've sold it and have bought a used 2017 A4 Black Edition 1.4 TFSI with 42,000 miles on clock.

When test driving it, the clutch biting point was really really high. The dealer popped it into their garage and agreed the clutch needed replacing which they have agreed to do before I collect the car. I thought it seemed odd for it to go with on 42,000 on clock? Anyone else had a clutch issue on these?

    Many thanks

    Ryan

Hi you are buying something someone else has been driving so unless you know them and their driving style its very possible, there is an old girl that uses the garage I do that gets through a clutch on her Corsa about every six months, they have the burnt and buckled remains of the worst one like a trophy on the workshop wall.

Hello again all my fantastic car strikes again, trying to solve my power steering issue I was pulling and checking fuses once I was content none were damaged I now have a amber airbag and ESP lights on was this due to pulling the fuses and needs deleted on a comp ?

Probably, they do like to hang on to a fault light even though the problem is not still there, any garage will be able to clear them.

Hi, I've recently picked up a 2014 A7, I'm getting quite a bit of wind noise from the passenger window. I've investigated and the window doesn't quite go all the way up when you shut the door, probably about 2-3 mm short.

Does anyone know of a way I can sort this out?

    Thank you in advance!

Many thanks for your reply – the detail is very helpful.

I had another look and think it should be OK.  The width across the batteries and a black cable comes to under 18” so think a 19” wheel should fit round it.  Have attached a couple of photos which show it.  As you say, I think I’ll need some insulation or padding to cope with the various cables and stop them being affected by the tyre.

Sorry to be a pest but I wasn’t sure what you meant when you said “...as long as the cables for the extra battery don't go inside the wheel tub...”.

    Thanks

Hi its pretty tight in there I would definitely check the depth of the recess more than any thing to make sure the tyre width wont exceed the height of the floor cover a good quality rubber boot liner would take care of any chafing issues, my A6 was never even close to the amount of boxes and wires you have.

I've looked at various comments and videos on this type of thread and am a tad confused so wondered if anyone could help please ?

I have a Sept 2022 A4 Avant Technik 35 Tdi with the usual tyre inflation kit.  I'm keen to install a space saver spare wheel instead.  Given the date of manufacture, I though I had a B9.  However, the plate on the car states  "Typ B8"  and the Owners Manual states  "8WD"  so am now not sure whether I have a B8 or B9  (please excuse the ignorance).  The car is a mild hybrid with additional small MHEV battery in the boot.

It looks as though there would be space for a 125/70/19 if I remove the inflation kit and moulding but am just not sure.

    My questions are as follows:

    1  any ideas on whether I have a B8 or B9 please ?

2  can I remove the tyre inflation kit and moulding then fit a 19" 125/70 space saver in the space and use the large threaded nut to hold it in place without the need for a special moulding piece - am a bit concerned about the cables from the battery and MHEV smaller battery but may be OK ?

3  or do I need have a moulding before installing the wheel  (I'm not concerned about how I carry the scissors jack and wheel brace)

4  would this tyre fit which is for a B8 but no mention of a B9     Audi A4 B8 (08-present day) 19" | Space Saver Wheel | The Wheel Shop

I am generally competent when it comes to cars, DIY etc but am a very recent first time Audi owner.  For recreational reasons I can find myself in areas of Scotland with no phone signal and am worried I get a tyre rip/similar which can't be fixed with an inflation kit hence the reason I'd prefer a spare wheel.

Any help and views on whether this is doable or needs additional parts/moulding would be gratefully appreciated.

    Thanks

Hi, as long as the cables for the extra battery don't go inside the wheel tub you should be fine measure the O/D of your existing wheels on your car and marry that against the I/D of the wheel tub, the moulding for the cr@p inflation system is removable and just leaves you the threaded spigot which will anchor your space saver, you can get round the possible noise of the wheel against the floor by buying some cheap stick on insulation, about 4mm thick from eBay and sticking it around the tub, if you mount the wheel face down you can use the space inside the wheel for your jack wrapped in an old towel or similar, just did this on my new Passat cab and found to my joy that the wheel tub was deep enough to take a full size spare.

Hi Gareth I appreciate your sentiment but realistically I doubt it will make a difference to more than a minority as most of these one post wonders can't even be bothered to look through the legions of post on this wonderful site to see if there is already an answer to their question, NO its far easier just to wait for some poor soul to to spoon feed the answer to them, I find this situation intolerable and on a personal level endorses my opinion that charging a small joining fee would eradicate the free loaders and any funds gathered from serious users would help with the costs of this forum, I have joined a few forums in my time and all required a subscription with the exception of some Ford forums, over the last couple of years the formulae for this situation has become blindingly apparent these people buy these cars in the blind belief that the Audi never goes wrong, someone told them that and its what they wanted to hear, most of the members on here all know that statement to be far from the truth, thats why they are here and after their own problems are solved actively engage in trying to help others, I have noticed lately that a couple of new members have posted the problem and the solution to that problem that they have worked out for themselves, we could definitely do with more members with that mind set.

Thanks, Steve - I think you're probably right.

Isn't it amazing how long it took manufacturers to come up with electric power steering? Seems the obvious, cheap and simple solution in hindsight…

    Mike 😎

Hi it took so long because the software to run electric power steering was not that well developed, if mechanical steering fails you can still steer, on the early electrical steering if it fails you are stuck, the main reason for the development of electric steering was emissions as it wont require the engine to drive the pump thus pushing up engine emissions and electric steering has been about on production cars since about 2008.

    Hey Audi folks,

I've run into a couple of issues with my car lately, and I'm hoping someone here might have some insight.

A few months back, I got an error code (7980 - P0726) - RPM Signal from ECU Implausible Signal - from my gearbox during a routine scan.
Surprisingly, the gearbox seems fine—no weird shifting or RPM drops, except for a slight delay when switching between Reverse and Drive. Might be two seconds until it selects D1 from R, not sure if that is acceptable time or not.

Now, I'm feeling some vibrations when I accelerate, and it's pretty noticeable. I've checked the wheels, tires, engine mounts, and gearbox mounts, but everything seems okay. Could these vibrations be related to the gearbox issue? Is my gearbox on the verge of failing, or could it just be a sensor problem?

Thanks for any help or advice you can offer!

Hi could be the dual mass flywheel and clutch assembly, bear in mind you have a wet clutch and a dry clutch.

I have looked at the back of the engine where there are some holes in the casing to show the fly wheel, I think it should be there. I have checked the exhaust manifold side also. I am wondering if I need to get the car on ramps and take off the under cover.

Hi yep the cover will have to come off, if its not removed you have no chance of seeing it big clue is the wires running to it.

I have an ACE engine that will not fire.

I get error code 00514, crankshaft position sensor.

The problem is that I cannot find it on the engine, has anyone got any data and photos of where Audi has put it.

Another issue is an intermittant oil light that flashes on and off at will, It has plenty of oil pressure and both sensors have been replaced.

Give me back my VW, with Carb and manual choke, this ACE engine is too complicated without proper documentation, I need some help.

Hi it will be near the crank pulley or in its own little haven where the gearbox bell housing joins the engine.

The audi price included the electronic control cap (8p0512133) at around £165 incl vat, parts in motion were shocks only and only available in a pair, I'm still searching and will keep you updated,

    Thanks for everyone's help

Hi on the other hand you could just try converting it to standard shocks if you only buy one side thats a no,no as shockers are always replaced in pairs, I found shocks on eBay that came with the caps for far less than the price for just one, standard shocks give you the option of Bilstein, Monroe, Sachs which are all the same if not better. Mag ride is a gimmick that sounds wonderful in theory but its only an electrical current passed into the oil which makes the metal floating in the oil bond so it gives the relief valve a far greater volume to deal with therefore stiffening the flow, Monotube shocks are far better as they are gas over oil and give more progressive damping and better tyre contact, can't beat a bit of Bilstein.

Yes twice and the red light glows when pressed so I know its working to agree

Hi have you tried putting the key against the recognition sign on the dash it looks like a radio signal embossed on the dash plastic normally around the climate control, if that wont work you have a problem with the key PCB which will require a trip to the stealers as they are the only people with the coding facilities and coding records, the keys can't forget the codes as they are embedded in the chip on the PCB so it could just be a case of recognition, have a look in the handbook for the recognition station.

Does it need Audi to program it or is there a way to do it with the key that works and the car?

Sudden starting issues . Hard to start and misfires for a couple of minutes before running smoothly . No loss of power and runs smoothly.  Hot starting fine.

Only thing which seems to be a coincidence was that the fuel tank was topped up , about 16 ltrs, to full the previous day. Filling station has not had any problems reported regarding issues with diesel.

Hi my first port of call would be to get the vehicle scanned for fault codes that could well give you an insight as to what's going on, I think the fuel fill could well be a coincidence but other than that it could be a blocked fuel filter, glow plugs or a sensor, hence the scan.

I have seen some wizardry on YouTube of making the lights do a start up jig but also that other features like keyless entry etc.

If theres very little then Ill move on but just wondered as people say that theres lots of cool options?

Hi you wont get far with that one as your vehicle is post 2020 an has the SFD protection system, Carly wont get anywhere near it the only one that will maybe is OBDeleven as they have a deal with VAG to buy tokens to allow functions.
