  1. Event update from Beaulieu Motor Museum

    Quote

We are disappointed to announce that we have had to take the difficult decision to postpone the first three Beaulieu Simply Rallies of the year, Simply Aston Martin (7th April), Simply Audi (14th April) and Simply Italian (21st April).

As you will be aware, we have had well above average rainfall during the start of this year, and with more forecast, we are concerned that we will not be able to confidently park the number of participants booked for each of the three rallies within our event parkland.

As the organiser for a club attending Simply Audi, we understand that you would have been eagerly anticipating this event and we share your disappointment. However, the safety and enjoyment of our attendees is extremely important to us, and we believe that postponing these events to later in the year is best course of action given the circumstances.

The new date for Simply Audi is Sunday 14th July 2024.

All ticket holders will be contacted in due course, but we are pleased to confirm that all existing bookings will remain valid for the rearranged dates.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would like to thank you for your continued support.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Beaulieu later in the year.

  2. Yes, will definitely enlighten you with the planned trip (when finances allow) and will definitely look forward to riding on roads that I have to concentrate so hard on avoiding obstacles and just enjoy the scenery.

Was flashed in Germany but never got a ticket, in France I have been stopped and (illegally) fined by the corrupt police force there 😞

I will post in the Road Trips section as could do with kick-starting that one up again

  3. Great write up Frank and thanks for sharing it with us

I too have done a similar route on my motorbike through Ypres onto Black Forest and into Bavaria then Austria before heading into Italy.....what amazing roads is all that can be said and the views are second to none!

Brings back some great memories and is strongly convincing me to plan another European road trip, thanks!

  4. Hi Steve, so sorry to hear of the demise of your Audi in such a bizarre way 😞 but at least no one was injured.

Our neighbour had an A6 a few years ago that ended up in the neighbours hedge over the road, same thing....applied the handbrake, went indoors and only found it the next morning. One thing that surprised me was that the alarm had not activated (e.g. movement sensors, etc) when it was merrily rolling down the road or across the forecourt.

On the subject of parts, it is not just Audi and cars in general, motorbikes are a leisure industry and therefore replacement bike parts are incredibly extortionate through the manufacturer. Luckily, there are many aftermarket suppliers for spares and can usually find the part at a bargain price through eBay and such like.
But 'badge engineering' is rife and makes such as Ducati (who incidentally are owned by Audi, I believe) are off the scale when it comes to parts and servicing.

Good luck with your search for a replacement car and it would be great to see you stay in the forums to continue imparting your knowledge to others.

  5. I hate to bring bad news to the table but I have come across this before on a Mini (BMW version) where the car was in a flood and based in Cornwall where this is common. The car was subsequently written off and should never have been resold as damage occurs to the electronics and numerous other areas.
It is impossible to get out of the seats and also carries bacteria which can affect your breathing.

If this is the case it will be accompanied by a pungent smell and also things like the seat runners can be corroded making it difficult to move back and forward.
If the car has ever spent time in flood areas in Cornwall then you should investigate further

Also, maybe as you are driving on the "wrong " side, on a poorly maintained road with a degree of camber on a road in Europe was the culprit in making your car pull to the right.

The opposite camber to the UK is more than likely the culprit...UK cars can suffer the same effect but the opposite direction (Honda CR-V is renowned for it)

  11. Oh my goodness, as long as you are okay?

The car can be fixed although it depends if you want it back with brake failure.....sounds like the fluid has too much moisture content and boiled when braking leaving an air bubble in the hydraulic system

Would lend you my car Steve but not sure it will come back in one piece 🙂

  12. So sorry to hear this news Steve,  I know how much you love that car and share your sentiments entirely as I couldn't think of parting with my old Z3.
But....unfortunately, sometimes every dog has its day (old saying, not saying your car is an old dog) and it also comes down to an issue of spares availability like you are experiencing now. So, looking forward to a few more years of motoring if you go ahead with another engine or a rebuild like Gareth has suggested, but you may be caught out at any point in the future with another unexpected issue and you can't get the parts or indeed the skilled labour to repair it.
If you do go ahead with repairing it then I wish you all the luck and if you were any closer in the country then I would willingly lend you a hand with the spanners.

P.S.  Just a thought but rather than sourcing an engine how about trying to find a complete car going for spares/repairs that you could hear the engine running and it would be a lot cheaper and also gives you a valuable source of spares?

  13. I hope the garage does get it repaired soon, unless of course there is also some difficulty finding a replacement sump.

p.s.  couldn't help but notice the rear end of a Rover 75, just thinking I haven't seen one on the road in ages
