  2. Help please? Hi all. My car has been on the drive for 3 months due to lockdown. I have been washing it. I got in it today to move it and when I turned the wheel it has a crunching sound towards the left wheel I thought it was a stone caught in the wheel but it continued when I drove up and down the street. I found online it could be peer steering but mine is electro mechanical so it seems this does not have fluid. Then it could be something with a ball bearing on the steering column?? I fear I will have to take it to the garage. It was fine before but maybe 3 months stood still has caused something to break. Would be good to get your thoughts and if I will be safe driving to the garage. Huge thanks. Linda To
  3. I'm currently trying to source a right hand tie rod assembly for my: 1993 Audi 80 2.6L V6 Avant with no avail. This is due to the apparent lack of parts available for the right hand drive variation. My question is whether there actually is any variation between the left and right hand drive model steering components (specifically tie rods) ? Below are the OEM part numbers and a link to the diagrams etc. http://www.catcar.info/audivw/?lang=en&l=c3RzPT17IjEwIjoiQnJhbmQiLCIyMCI6IkFVREkiLCI0MCI6IkF1ZGkgODBcLzkwXC9BdmFudCBFdXJvcGUiLCI1MCI6IjE5OTMiLCI2MCI6IkZyb250IGF4bGUsIHN0ZWVyaW5nIiwiNzAiOiI0MTkxNSJ9fHxzdD09NzB8fGJyYW5kPT1hdXx8bWFya2V0PT1SRFd8fG1kbD09QTgwICB8fEVwaXM9PTExNHx8RWluc2F0ej09MTk5M3x8TWFpbkdyb3VwPT00fHxCaWxkdGFmZWw9PTQxOTE1fHxHcmFmaWs9PTA0MTkxNTEyMw%3D%3D Welcome any responses!
  4. Hi guys. Bit stuck on this one. I have the yellow steering wheel warning lit on the dash. Not to clued up on the steering system. I had the battery disconnected for a week when i went on holiday hoping it might solve it but didnt. The light is on all the time and only time it goes out is when keys out The steering isnt heavy and just feels like it was before the light came on. I had a slightly flat battery months ago and couldnt start the car without a slight push, could there be something there like a power surge or something like blowing a fuse. To sum up light on but no loss in steering or power steering. Thsnks for any help.
  5. Hi All, I have been running my A4 B8 Black Edition ex demo for 6 months or so, now a year old with 14K on the clock. I had recently noticed a notchy effect on the steering around the centred position. The car went to Audi and the outcome was a software update for the steering performed under warranty. Somehow the steering position sensor had lost centre. The car seems far better now, but the 19" rotars are giving horrendous tram lining, and the car constantly wants to change direction. I believe it is the Continentals, already well into the second set of fronts. Have filled with Nitrogen, but makes no real difference. Thinking of changing to Michellin next time. Has anybody else suffered tram-lining and what other brands of tyres work well to reduce it? Regards, Mike
  6. Hi All Just purchased a 2010 A5 Cabriolet Quattro 2.0 TSFI with 57k on the clock and i've noticed if I rock the steering wheel back and forth there is quite a substantial knocking sound coming from the steering. Sounds like there is some play in the steering rack and it's knocking around however this is only 5 years old and done 57k so not what I would expect to hear. There is no play in the steering and the car drives fine. It mostly noticeable while stopped although I can still hear it when moving it's just masked by more engine/road noise. Any advice would be great. Thanks George
  7. Hi everyone ^_^ I bought an Audi A4 Cab in August, and not long after I heard a grind in the steering, at very low speed but not dry steering, like parallel parking etc. I asked for it to be looked at when I had it in to get the timing belt done but they couldn't get it to make the noise, same goes for when I tried to show people the noise, but now its getting more frequent, its just like a really loud low pitched groan, it sounds like there's no hydraulic fluid but I checked this the first time it happened, it was very low but not empty, so I topped it up straight away and it hasn't gone down since, I'm thinking maybe its been low too long and some steering components have become damaged due to not having enough fluid? Has anyone else had this problem? Also, a coupe of things I've fixed this week, in case anyone comes across a similar problem: 1) On Sunday night, I opened my boot with the key boot release button, and then I couldn't close it again, it kept bouncing back open, after stripping the boot lining off I found that my boot lock actuator had seized, this connects to a metal rod which releases the boot lock mechanism, this cost me £45 for the part which I fitted last night and the problem is solved! 2) Whilst I had the boot lining off I found that all underneath it was soaking wet, including the electronics and the signal boosters for the stereo, so I took the boosters out to dry overnight and used electric cleaner on the plugs and left them to dry out. Then yesterday after fitting the new actuator I took the strip brake light out which is on the curve of the boot with it being a cab, I found the gasket around the light was split and worn, so i cleaned the light up and put the gasket back on surrounded by sealant for temporary measure, this has made it water tight so should be ok until I can get hold of a new gasket. 3) I had my can-bus system screaming that I had a rear side light out but I had changed the bulb twice and it still wouldn't come on, so on closer examination I realized the negative connection had snapped off, to avoid replacing bits of my light I just took the little bit of metal that has snapped, bent it in half and wedged it in next to the bulb so its making contact, and now the light works :D
  8. PAS light on dashboard. Steering very very very heavy - fighting against the hydraulics it feels like. Pfeifer in Hove can't get any message on diagnostics. Suggested Steering Rack or ECU. (sigh) However, won't know if it's ECU until fitting Rack (£700-800). They can't locate a decent non-audi one so they said I should take it to the main dealer. (bigger sigh) I'm not really keen on 2nd hand, recon or really cheap crap ones. Can anyone suggest a supplier as ACS power steering who Pfeifer uses have no stock and can't come up with anyone else. Have to say - pretty hacked off with this. My first ever car that I've owned, I paid a good 30-40% premium for an Audi rather than a Ford/Vaux/etc for supposed build quality. It's only 8 years old and has done 75k miles. This is going to cost about 25% of the cars value. For something so fundamental to go wrong it could almost be classed as a latent defect. Anyhooo - answers on a postcard please folks. Phil.
