  1. Thanks Trevor, good advice.
  2. Here is a link to many different ones advertised on eBay I would probably pay more for a reputable brand like Osram or Ring http://www.ebay.co.uk/dsc/Bulbs-LEDs/174060/i.html?_ddo=1&_os=PS|D&_ipg=100&_from=R40&LH_TitleDesc=1&mvsub=1&_mcatda=true&selfil=2%2C3%2C1&selvel=Audi~A4~2010~-~-&_nkw=emergency bulb kit Audi A4 2010

Thank you for the advice will look into it. And will let you know what I buy. Merry xmas
  4. Had mine from new for 12 years and little to complain about. Corrosion/seizure of the wipers mechanism is I believe common - but imagine that would have already failed on a car at £2-3k. Check the crappy plastic hinge on the glove box isn't broken - trivial but annoying.
  5. Touch wood the problem was actually quite simple in the end. Clip holding the top hose was rusted and not gripping, and the o ring that sits behind the clip was lost when the pipe disconnected from the radiator. Both clip and o ring very cheap from ebay. I am guessing mine won't be the only one with the clips rusting (the bottom radiator hose also had a loose clip due to rust) so if it is of any help to others: Clip part no 1J0121142 4mmx32mm O ring part no. N-907-653-01 Dripping from back of engine bay was separate problem that seems well documented with drain holes beneath the battery blocking and rain collecting beneath the battery.
  6. Audi was no help what so ever , but a phone call to our small local Skoda dealer and got all the details of the oil and filter that i needed !
  7. Hi James, Theres's a lot on the net about these cars so make sure you do some digging. I got my S4 Avant earlier this year and spent a fair bit of time on research. Valves that continue to rattle doesn't sound good so I'd be vary wary. They can (and do) suffer from timing chain (it's a chain on these, assuming it's a B6/B7, not a belt) rattle on startup (read all the horror stories about eating timing chain tensioners and decide whether to believe them or not). In a lot of cases this can be cured with an oil change, but I suspect that's merely masking things. I do understand that Audi say the S4 can rattle a bit on startup from cold but goes within a maximum of a couple of seconds, mine (at 95000 miles now) 'touch wood' doesn't rattle. BUT it's recommended by many that you don't stick to the long life service regime, if you do then at least change the oil and filter between services, and use as good an oil as you can (I like quite a few use Fuchs Titan Race Pro S from Opie Oils). Make sure it's got a complete service history, walk away if only part history, and after that all the usual rules about a second hand cars apply. If it looks good and you go ahead and purchase then for peace of mind do an oil change as soon as you get it, then enjoy. Fortunately mine had Audi service history from new and had not been tampered with, but I did an oil change anyway. I'm sure fuel economy isn't an issue if you're considering a 4.2 V8 but autos are slightly better due to their gearing (mine's an auto and I'm averaging 24mpg with a real mix of driving). Broken glove box, no problems - get a 'repair kit' which is a couple of bent brackets from eBay and the problem is sorted. I got mine from a guy in Cyprus of all places (IIRC) and it cost a couple of quid. If it's got sat nav then latest discs can be had off eBay if you're in the right place at the right time, avoid the ones offering 7 digit postcode search as they don't work, in my experience anyway, just go OEM. This is my first post too! Hope the search goes well, you won't be disappointed if you find a good one. Cheers, Rich
  8. Hi Tim, Im also new to this forum and also new to owning a A6. I have had a similar problem in so much as I cannot get any heat out from either side. I have tried the usual suspects and no luck so took it to a local garage who have manged to get some heat out. They flushed out the heater matrix for both passenger and drivers side and refilled paying careful attention to getting as much air out as possible. I now have heat but they want me to go back next week so they can use a vac pump to make sure there are no air locks. Seems that air locks in the system are a real pain on these heating systems. hope this helps
  9. Yeah will do, atm it's tooooooo damned cold
