The rebooting and loss of radio etc is the general issue and the software update does fix it, the key fob battery is not related to this issue
-
I had to use the workaround for a while but I am happy to say that since the software upgrade on the 11th of August I have had no further instances of any of the MMI crashes or the sos failure

I'm also getting these and *still* waiting for a software fix. shameful. I'm really thinking of giving mine back even though I'm only 6 months into a 36 month PCP.
As for when the SoS system goes into failure, there is a work around.
I usually wait until the system does a reboot after about 1 minute after the SoS failure message. It will load the guest user settings. I'm not sure if you have to wait. I always do.
- Open the emergency button flap on the light cluster in the ceiling. It's opened by pressing it and it pops open.
- Press and hold the inner button for a 2-3 seconds and let go. You can also at this stage close the protective flap too.
- After about 45 seconds (can be longer or shorter), the "SoS" warning light on the instrument cluster will go out
- a few seconds later you will hear "an emergency call is being made" and the MMI will have a "Cancel" button on it.
- Press the button to cancel the call
The MMI will reboot again after about 1 minute and your usual profile and all call making facilities will be restored.
On a long journey however (4+ hours), I discovered this can only be done once per "Engine On"/Trip. If it's attempted a second time nothing happens.

Just had the 27J9 campaign recall completed and have taken the car to areas where in the past the MMI would crash repeatedly, so far all seems good now. In addition they have also replaced the battery control unit which was to stop a message indicating insufficient battery charge on the normal battery to start the engine. I had this happen twice when on holiday and hadn’t had any ev charge for several days

They have now issued a recall for a replacement back to the head unit plus a flash of the software but no guarantee it will fix the sos call failure issue. I will see if it’s worked after the 11th August. Not holding my breath

I believe the update is also model specific as the one for the tfsie has still not been rolled out

I have recently had the same problem with the added sos call malfunction message. Audi are releasing a software update supposedly in January and February and all affected owners should be receiving an email (according to my local dealership). It is related to phone masts causing problems with the control systems and may be related to 5G work which explains why the more urban areas have greater problems. Fingers crossed!
