  1. Hi All

I bought my cabriolet in 2019 but for various reasons haven't got around to doing the jobs I'd like to do to it yet . It is now top of the list again so I need to set about various tasks.
I need to get a new red roof and inner lining . I tried to get the original repaired but it is really to far gone. Any recommendations? I'm in the highlands but will travel to get a decent job done.

I also need to get my front seats and rear seat pad refurbished. Anyone had any experience of getting this done ? What is the process do they completely redo the leather ?
    Any advice is much appreciated!

    Hello Vincent,

This is a common failure location, and I wouldn’t try to reconnect these wires at the current point of fracture.
New section of harness? Seriously doubt it.

If this were mine, I would be looking for some lengths of the same colours at a local scrap yard.
Personally, I don’t favour crimp connectors and avoid them like the plague. I solder the two stranded wires together - having slipped some shrink sleeving over one side before hand, then sliding it back over the soldered joint and shrinking it to form an insulated joint. Attempt to stagger the joins.
    Kind regards,

    Gareth.

Thanks for the quick reply Gareth.

I wouldn't entertain crimping in this instance either . My thought would be to join a a piece in line that is longer and then I could push the repaired section up into the boot lid and the other end down inside the boot.

do you know if it's possible to access the cable in the boot lid at some point where I could do the join ?

nice idea about getting some wire from a breaking car . If I got the section inside the boot it should be long enough and in good enough condition .

    cheers

  3. Hi All

my 80 cab 2.6 auto has no illumination on the auto gear selector . I can't see at night when changing from drive reverse and park .  Please let me know if this is not meant to be illuminated . Also the bit of the dash under the rev counter and speedo that shows which gear your in isn't illuminated either . Can anyone tell me what is meant to be illuminated and what isn't and what might be wrong .

    thanks for any help

  4. Hi Gareth

thanks very much for your reply.

i certainly will keep post updated . The car needs quite a bit of attention so I’m sure I will be turning to the forum regularly.

it did make the 500 mile journey home with no issues though so that’s a good start .

I need to give it a good service now it’s home.
any recommendations on what is good practice to change and what oil to use . ?
this is the first Petrol I’ve bought in over 20 years so I’m a bit rusty on servicing petrols.

is there a manual available for them Haynes or other ?

    thanks again

  5. Hi All

I just picked up my 1999 cab and started the drive home. It has driven 350 miles with no issues other than it is over cooling and also a petrol smell.
Im assuming thermostat for over cooling unless anyone tells me different ? Any common isssues that would cause petrol smell?

    cheers
