Anyone reading this a few months on
You don't need to remove the A pillar cover completely to wire a dash cam, you can pull it out at the top just far enough to be able to get your fingers in and guide the wire BEHIND the air bag

My advice would be to get a professional to install it. But usually dashcam wiring is often piggybacked of the cigarette lighter/12v socket.
Cheers
Steve
I don't have any worries about the actual wiring, it's not knowing how to safely remove the A pillar cover to route the cable behind the air bag that concerns me. I probably will get it fitted professionally in the end

Has anyone with a new 2020 Q3 installed a dash cam themselves?
I'd like to be able to wire up a camera myself, but due to the large number of air bags and the lack of knowledge regarding the removal of the A pillar cover on this vehicle I may have to get an installer to do it for me
Anyone removed the A pillar cover safely and replaced it? I'd love to hear from you if you have
Thanks

Hi everyone
We finally pick up our 45 TFSI Vorsprung Q3 Sportback tomorrow 🙂
I'd be interested to hear what other people have been doing for the security of their vehicles
Has anyone fitted an immobiliser / tracker in their vehicle?
How secure do you all feel the new Q3 is?
Thanks
-
Thanks Gareth
We're almost certainly looking at time based / annual scheme as I'm now retired and only travel around 6,000 miles a year and it's a straight cash sale - no PCP
I keep seeing reference to 9000 miles or one year for the Audi plan, which seems to make sense. The last few cars I've driven have been two year intervals, which I've thought were too long
Just a case of working out if the three annual services would cost more than a three year service plan, which isn't easy to do

Hi
We're about to pick up a new Q3 45 TFSI Vorsprung edition this week
Is it worth taking out a service plan with Audi, or just paying for the service at the specified intervals?
Also, does anyone know what the service intervals are for a new Q3 in the UK? I can't find details anywhere, which makes it difficult to work out if we're actually saving anything
Many thanks

Keith, I was in Carlisle Audi collecting my car when I saw your post. From dockside to collection was quick. Call from last dealers last Thursday evening offering collection yesterday or today so hopefully you will see your car soon. I should add that dealers were extremely busy, haven't seen a showroom that busy Wednesday mid morning fro a while.
Enjoy the car.
Thanks David - looking forward to it 🙂

Believe me if you buy a Land Rover you'll be buying trouble. 1. Due to reliability, and 2. They're financially struggling.
Well, the good news is, our car is showing as in transit to the UK now 🙂
Probably already here, as the Malacca Highway docked at Sheerness just after 9am this morning
So I won't be out looking at Evoques any time soon 😉
Information for those tracking cars - there appears to be two different areas at Emden docks. The main area on the West is for VW, if the ship travels through the lock gates to the inner harbour on the East, it's picking up Audis. The Malacca Highway appears to be visiting both alternately at the moment. The Malacca Highway appears to be the only ship visiting Sheerness. There are other ships visiting Grimsby ETC
Thanks for all your input everyone

Our car's still showing as in transit, but the Malacca Highway did set sail for Sheerness yesterday so it's possible our car is on it - no change to our status so far 😞
Your car may have been on the ship I saw sail for Grimsby last Saturday
Good luck with the new car David
Well I'm still waiting - car still just showing as "left Martorell" (even though it wasn't built there)
I'm getting a little worried now, as the car's been standing at the docks at Emden for over two months in sea air and it's probably going to be well over three months old before I get my hands on it. Maybe I should expect a healthy discount?
If I don't hear something positive soon I'm seriously thinking of walking away from this one and ordering a British manufactured car

Ordered a Vorsprung 2 litre Quatro petrol version yesterday.
We've been told they already had a vehicle in the Audi build queue, so delivery in only a couple of months
Collection 1st week of April if all goes well 🙂
It didn't :-( The car got out of the Audi factory just before lockdown, and now (contrary to Audi's web site tracker) is stuck in the German port of Emden
It's been there for two months now :-(
Audi in Crawley say the ports are working normally, but the only ship i can see in the port of Emden that regularly visits Sheerness is the Malacca Highway and it hasn't moved for months. I did see a ship leave for Grimsby on Saturday, but our car was not on it.
Does anyone have any further insight into what's going on at Emden at the moment?
Many thanks

Well not in any 2020 versions of the Q3 in the UK and the manual is written in English, so that narrows it down a bit
Maybe you could help solve the mystery of why heated steering wheels are not an option in the UK on the 2020 Q3 or Q3 Sportback even though it's listed in the Q3 2020 English manual?
-
Yes, but it's not an option on ANY of the models!
-
Well we've ordered the top line Vorsprung and it's not possible on that either
The S-Line vehicle we borrowed for 24 hours had the users manual in the glove box and 'Heated Steering Wheel' was mentioned, although the vehicle didn't have it
Go figure!??

I just checked out a photo of the wheels we've ordered on the web builder and the tyres are definitely not runflats - phew!

Well done Keith,
225 is a reasonable width to somewhat compensate for the 40 profile which could be considered low. The acid test is of course, you were able to fully assess the ride comfort before committing.
Incidentally - run flats or not? Run flats now seem to becoming the norm.
Kind regards,
Gareth.
To be honest, I don't know Gareth. No mention of tyre type on web site or car builder and I forgot to ask the dealer
Something I'll have to research

Let us know how you get on, and what the tyres sizes and types are on the 20 inch wheels.

Hi Gareth
Ordered a 2 litre TFSI Q3 Sportback, Vorsprung version in the end
Wheels are 20 inch with 255/40 R 20 tyres

Does anyone have a new Q3 Sportback with a heated steering wheel?
I've just ordered a top line Vorsprung and that doesn't have one.
Mysteriously though, the 24 hour loan car we just took back has it listed in the Q3 user manual!

Hi everyone
We've just ordered a new Q3 Sportback Vorsprung edition - looking very much to driving it this summer
Managed to get a car already allocated a build slot by Audi and only have until April to wait 🙂

Hello Keith,
By what I can make out, the Vorsprung edition of the Q3 is only available with wheels of 20 inch diameter minimum (in caps), with options of increasing theses diameters to 21 or even 22 inch - like farm cart wheels.
It sounds to me that you are interested in a comfortable ride over potholes rather than road holding capabilities, and if so, the all important factor is the tyre profile (the height of the tyre wall rubber from road to rim). If this is if the order of 40 profile or less then the ride is going to be firm, unless the tyres are very wide - profile = % of width. Another factor in the comfort stakes is whether run-flat tyres are fitted as standard, as they often are now, since the sidewall will be firmer and less flexible.
In theory, the larger the wheel and tyre diameter, the less affect will be felt at a pothole, since the larger dia. wheel will roll over the pothole rather than into it.
Apps. are fine, but you cannot beat a face to face discussion and assessment of a test vehicle with the dealer. That would be my move - armed with some of the above.
Let us know how you get on, and what the tyres sizes and types are on the 20 inch wheels.
Kind regards,
Gareth.
Thanks Gareth, we have a car on a 24 hour loan from Audi in Crawley at the moment with 19 inch wheels
The ride's been fine, even down our potholed road, so I'm not so worried any more
I have to say I do like the car very much - will probably pull the trigger on one tomorrow 🙂
Regards

Hi everyone
Thinking seriously about buying a Q3 Sportback Vorsprung
Will Audi supply different wheels and tyres to those specified in their builder app?
The Vorsprung edition is only listed with 20inch wheels, but I'm a bit worried about wheels that large with all the potholes in the UK
Would Audi be able to order 18 or 19 inch wheels instead with all season tyres, or will they insist on the 20 inch as specified with a separate set of winter wheels/tyres?
Dashcam install in new Q3?
