    Hello Josh,

Many thanks for keeping us up to date.

Its very surprising that your insurers will only agree to agreed-value when the car is >35 years old. Odd - it’s usually over 20 years old. My feeling is that you may not be insured with one of the numerous specialist classic car insurance brokers, but simply an insurer who deals in the general market.

Classic car brokers will usually dictate that the vehicle is not your sole means of transport and that the mileage is limited to say 3 to 6K/a. They insure such vehicles without the need for you to have a ‘spare NCB’ - an these policies don’t generate a NCB. They will provide you with a condition form which you (in caps) can complete, together with a set of photos, and you decide the (reasonable) agreed valuation. If it’s reasonable, they will accept it.

Such specialist broker inc. Peter James Insurance, Lancaster, Carole Nash, Hagetty etc. - and there are many more, but I would restrict my enquiries to specialists in this field, rather than general insurers who might also do agreed value. Breakdown cover is normally included, and premiums are generally very attractive.

    Hope some of this helps.

    Kind regards,

    Gareth.

Thanks Gareth, that’s a great help. I will give it some thought for the future, although to be honest we have a multi car policy with the largest provider, for my wife’s car, the Z, and for this. The pricing is very reasonable, at present the Z won’t qualify for 20 years old for another five years so I’m quite happy to wait and have an agreed value on the Audi added in January (they were happy to do this FOC). I have also added trackers to this and the Z, so I will notify them of this, although I’m not sure it will bring about any savings... I guess if I don’t say I won’t know.

    Cheers, Josh

    Hello Josh,

Looks a very nice, well cared for example, and obviously it’s found a good home.

I guess it goes without saying that you have it insured on an agreed value basis.

    Kind regards,

    Gareth.

Welcome to the forum Josh, you're avant looks a beaut!

Will look forward to seeing the car in the flesh in up and coming shows ☺️

    Cheers

    Steve

Thanks guys! I’m interested in where to find information on shows for next year (COVID permitting)...

Also, Gareth, you’re absolutely right about wanting to get an agreed value. My insurance will allow this when the car tips over the 35 year old point... is there anyone within the UK club who could provide a valuation service to back up my application when the time comes?

Looking forward to getting it out there.

    Cheers,

    Josh

Haha! Yes I am. My other car is also a Z4MR (below) and it was when I was looking at the page for that meetup on the Ace Cafe website that I saw the Audi one immediately after.

My username is the same on the Z4 Forum and I am guessing you are second on the list for that event?

Hiya chap! Sorry I didn’t see this sooner... gorgeous car too, great colour 😉 my favourite in fact! I went along for a few hours in the morning but sadly had to get away early... cracking weather again for it.

  4. Hi everyone,

A few days after having picked it up now, I thought I’d get signed up on here with my newest purchase.

Our family having had a 1988 100 CS Quattro Avant when I was a kid, getting behind the wheel of this beauty is bringing back so many wonderful memories for me; and better still the drive hasn’t tainted those at all! Thanks must go to Steve Westlake, from whom I collected the car on Sunday, I know he was sad to see it go, but he knows I plan to cherish it for years to come.

I’m also the proud custodian of a 2006 BMW Z4M Roadster, so I’m already revelling in this entirely different form (modern) classic car ownership.

To be fair, I’m sure a lot of people are on the Classic Audi Facebook group too, so apologies to those on there who have already seen the car and my enthusiasm for it ☺️.

Massively looking forward to getting to a few events with the car over the coming years. In the short term, I have some work underway, and will be taking it to Caffeine and Machine next week too for the StrassenKultur evening.

Whilst keeping everything as authentic as possible is absolutely key to me, I think the one mod I’m looking forward to most is installing a set of Centra wheels (from the original accessory range of the period) in time for next summer. We had these wheels on the family car, and I think they will set it off superbly.

Anyway, that’s me, can’t wait to get involved.

    All the best,

    Josh
