  1. Hi Garath,

I use Audi or my local specialist both fit main dealership parts hence the price. The big difference is labour cost my local specialist hourly rate is £60. These guys are Audi trained in all makes and models. I have been told the battery cells were damaged and not charging also my dash board had the yellow battery light on.

I have asked why the alternator was not apparently checked and they said everything indicated the battery was the problem. It would have saved me a £80 tow fee less then 24hrs after replacing the battery.

  2. Sorry for the delay in updating this post, I had the battery replaced but unfortunately it was the Alternator that had died.

The new battery lasted one day ended up getting the car towed back in to mu Local Audi specialist.

I only use main dealership parts so you can imagine this wasn’t cheap job

    battery £200 + vat

    Alternator £657 + vat

Surprisingly now the car is driving smoother  I’m not sure if that’s because I didn’t drive the car for roughly a week. It’s just great to have the Audi back up and running.

  3. The weather is changing and it’s s getting cooler here in the UK and I have started getting the following message,

    Start / Stop system fault.
    Function unavailable.
    Please contact workshop.

    with a yellow battery sign.

I believe it’s a battery due to it just turning 5 years old.

Im going to ring round on Monday for the best prices, what’s the cost of a battery change?

due to it needing programming how simple is it for the owner to do?

  4. Thanks for the detailed response, you are correct the passenger side is working fine. It definitely sounds like it needs investigating I was hoping they were separately fused and it was a simple fuse replacement.

Well today my cheap £10 after market part arrived and it took less then 5 minutes to actually fit. I then switched the car on and hey presto the warning has disappeared. I have just took the car for a 20 mile drive and everything seems ok. If anything changes I will post on the this thread.

Well here’s a quick update I’m pleased to tell you all my cheap part is still working as it should done roughly just over 1200 miles. I will update if anything changes.

In my experience, 'open circuit' can mean anything from a broken wire to quite simply a failed component. Or maybe I'm thinking of 'short to ground'? 😕

Thankfully I have come across anything effected by it but I will do a little digging, thanks for the comments

It should be criminal that Audi haven't sent out some sort of notification to owners who maybe potentially affected!

They also need to update the message on the dash, as it gives the incorrect impression that you are ok to continue to drive without any consequences!

I'm also interested to know if people have gone though more than one replacement part (was it a genuine Audi part or a copy from ebay?). Still unsure how the revised 'B' version is any different!

For how cheap the part is I wouldn't put it off in my opinion. Especially when the braking system is arguably the most important system in the car.

Have you a part number before I order and any fitting information.

    Thanks in advance

I'd change the sensor anyway if you haven't already as the car could just be masking the problem in your case.

I'd advise changing the sensor anyway. As it could lead to a big bill otherwise. Bet safe than sorry in my opinion.

Definitely on my to do list, luckily my car is used daily it’s only the odd occasion it’s left more then 10 days but definitely worth doing.
