Hello David,
To my logic, the suffix A denotes an earlier version of your later B, so possibly from a pre 2009. Significance??
If it remanufactured as opposed to just ‘secondhand’, then the remanufacturer will/ should have the experience to answer any questions about specific differences. Have you asked, and have you had a reply?
Kind regards,Gareth.
Hi Gareth
i agree with your logic
as for finding a replacement gearbox i have now found one and its local to me
the guy i was messaging was a complete waste of time and had little to no knowledge of the type of box i needed
hopefully my car will be back on the road sometime next week
oh the joys of Audi ownership
thanks again all

It is a pity the problem is not the flywheel because flywheels are cheaper than gearboxes to replace. A new gearbox is going to be horrendously expensive, while a secondhand box is going to be a lottery in terms of condition. I suggest you look for a company to restore your existing gearbox. It's been decades since I had a gearbox rebuilt so I don't know of a company to point you to, but a quick internet search revealed several in the UK.
Agrees Cliff
i may have found a replacement remanufactured box checked part numbers stamped on housing its 0AJ 301 103 only difference is the final letter on his is an A mine is a B do you know if there compatible
thanks again

It sounds like a broken spring in the dual mass flywheel.
Hi Cliff just to let you know on my car it’s not a dual mass flywheel it’s a single solid flywheel

Hello all
A quick update on my clattering sound when taking foot off clutch
taken the gearbox out my mechanic and i checked the clutch release bearing etc all of them in good working order
Spinning the gearbox shaft and there was the noise i experienced when taking my foot off the clutch oh dear
my mechanic/friend said i need a new gearbox
i know the part number etc for my gearbox is 0AJ 301 103 B code LNY (see pic please to make sure ive read it right)
so my next question is does anyone know of a good place to get a replacement gearbox from?
Thanks in advance

Hi Gareth
Thanks for your reply while gearbox is out may as well do everything
I’m really surprised i didnt get any warning signs whatsoever it pulled well in all gears, gear change was always smooth and quiet still it is what it is just got to get on with it now

Hi All
So this morning got into my 2009 A3 1.4tfsi started as normal foot depressing clutch as i was getting to the biting point the car started making a horrendous clattering sound which immediately went away when i depressed the clutch pedal
I’m thinking its the flywheel and/or clutch
Any ideas how i can narrow down the fault? -
just to let you know i now have a reversing light!!! Was a bad connection at the bulb holder for the reversing bulb a little bending of the metal strips and all good
Many thx again for your help much appreciated- 1

I dont have a multimeter as i have no idea how to use it im a mechanical engineer by trade, electrics are not my thing

This has been going on for some time, and without reading back over all the posts:-
Have you checked the flexible harness section twixt tailgate and body - looking for fractured wires?
Have you now got yourself a multi-meter?
Kind regards,Gareth.

Hello Gareth
i have checked and double checked the wires gave each of thema good pull with the ignition on and in reverse hoping id see at least a flicker from the reversing light but nothing unfortunately
doing the new plug repair has got rid of all the previous errors except the reversing light (see below)

Hi again All
a little update
I’ve finally bit the bullet and rewired the rear lights with a new plug which came with about 15mm of wire and guess what I still have no Reversing light same error comes up on the Dash “left rear reversing light not working” (with a picture of a bulb with a line through it)
all the other lights in that cluster work brakes, indicator, lights
so im at a complete loss now anybody go any suggestions ?
heres a printout from VCD

Hello all
im in the process of making adjustments to the boot of my 3 door A3 to accept a full size spare wheel it’s been quite a challenge but im nearly there just have a quick question about the screw down clamp that used to hold the space saver wheel how is the fixed part of the clamp assembly attached to the floor of the boot I cant see how it’s attached as i want to remove it and get a clamp to secure the full size spare wheel
any help much appreciated

I’m a little confused as to there being no fuses in the engine compartment fuse box that you told me to check
-
-
Hi Jason
ive checked fuse F4 which is all good drivers side
opened the fuse box in the engine there is no fuse in F5 or F7 (see pic) it looks like i have the 30 fuse version in the engine compartment
i also checked the wiring in the black gator on the boot there appears to be no damage to any of the wires within the gator
cheers Jason
-
Hi Jason
Ill have a look tomorrow thanks for the info
-
-
Hi All
while searching for a fuse i popped off the plastic trim on the passenger side (same trim that covers the fuse box on Drivers side) and came across a plug which is unplugged i have attached a pic of it anyone got any ideas what it is and what it does?
-
Hi Jason
Well I've looked for the fuse for the reversing light switch as per your message
“Tech bits .. the central controller is responsible for reverse lights code 09-Cent-Elect .. but that's a whole new chapter
CHECK F4 FUSE which is a 5Amp fuse in passenger side
CHECK the wires in the plug terminal on the Reversing Switch”
im really confused now as there is no fuse box on the passenger side (i removed the plastic trim to look) its on the drivers side i cant find any fuse that covers the reversing light anywhere including the fuse box inside of the engine compartment
i will go ahead and change the plug once the weather improves
again thanks for your help Jason

There seems to have been an excess of dialogue on this issue, and I can add only two more points - hopefully not with too much detail:-
If your reverse bleeper are working then it’s reasonable to believe your reverse switch is operating - as Cliff said from the outset.
Have you checked the wiring within the flexible harness section twixt body and tailgate? This is a favourable place for wires to fracture - particularly in cold conditions.
Oops, sorry another question- have you checked for voltages and continuity at the bulb holder?
Personally, I would now consider engaging an hour’s services with an auto electrician if I was in your situation.
Anyway….
Kind regards,Gareth.
Hi Gareth
Thanks for your info on checking the wires ill do that when it finally stops raining!

I am going to leave this matter in Jason's hands as he knows far than me, but I will add two comments.
I don't believe the statement that the reversing lights are on the same fuse as the aircon and something else. The whole idea of having multiple fuses is to ensure each circuit is independant of the others, so that failure of one does not affect other circuits. What is your source for this information?
I am not a fan of computer diagnoses without careful interpretation, however yours shows two instances of short circuits at the bolbs which suggests to me that the wiring is damaged or there is still water present somewhere in the light unit.
Hi Cliff
Thanks so much for your help
-
Hi Jason
With my car being a 3 door A3 there is only one reversing light on the passenger side and 1 fog light on the rear drivers side the fog light works its only the reversing light that doesn’t work
i will check the fuse you suggest I'm not sure where i got that info about the fuse sharing with a/c i must have read it some where
i was only going to remove the reversing switch to check the wiring and see if it was working
thanks again Jason
-
Hi Jason
First of all i really appreciate your help on this
In answer to your question i have checked the fuse same fuse controls the a/c and something else so i know thats fine
i will try the battery earth cleaning/ spraying
i have soldered stuff before but prefer to leave it as a last resort but from what you've said changing the plug is the way to solve this once and for all
This isn't going to beat me smiles
