    Dealership kindly agreed to do my brake fluid service for half price. So all good now, thanks to all who replied.

    A quick update on this.  After 10 minutes/2%, I gave up that attempt.  Switched off the ignition and locked up, but left the USB stick in the slot.  Next day I started the car and noted that the install was now at 30%!  I'm guessing the install continues until the car shuts down completely.  Anyway, the install resumed (nice!) and completed during a 40 minute or so drive.
    Hope others might find this useful.
