A dilemma I had recently when the car reached 3 years old. Main dealer servicing will always look good on resale but is expensive compared to independents and I do have a good one near me that service my son's gti and uses only vag parts. The a3 is just 3 year's old. After looking at a range of costs and convenience I decided to go for the audi all-in plan which covers 2 services and mots, 2 years warranty and 2 year's roadside assistance. If the car had been older my decision may well have been different. Using a good independent is always a decent choice to reduce costs but you should expect genuine parts to be used. The savings are in the labour charges. Not able to help with recommendations near you but I expect a member local to you can give you a pointer. Best of luck with your purchase and finding a reliable garage.

joe6's post in MMI oil Level/service schedule was marked as the answerIf it is like my 2023 a3 it still has the dip stick and no mmi oil check. I'm old school and prefer dip stick. Makes you look under the bonnet once in a while. 😀

joe6's post in 2025 a3 saloon 35 black edy was marked as the answerSlightly different scenario but the catching fire element was also a feature of the mk 8 golf gti and dealers were told to remove them. Vw eventually revised the design and provided one for those who had them removed. Only recorded fire that I found was in the USA.

joe6's post in OEM reversing camera retrofit was marked as the answerLong time since I started this thread. Thought I would provide an update with coding for anyone searching this thread. I used genuine audi parts for an A3 8y - package number 8Y0.054.634A with wiring harness 8Y0.054.733 which cost £232. It came with instructions for fitting but not coding. I put the wiring through the car following the recommended route although short cut down the boot side trim rather than take the whole side trim out but the rest was along the floor clipped to the existing wiring. No trim broken or clips. One change I made was to use the earth inside the boot lid rather than inside the car body as this also saved removing some of the trim. Gaining access to the J533 module for connections was difficult and took some time to release and wriggle out from behind the steering column.

Note: If purchasing a new camera as I did from audi you will need to load parameters via e-odis. Any garage with e-odis should be able to do this if you have the audi part numbers. My local independent vag garage charged £50.

joe6's post in Air bag light. was marked as the answerOften get multiple faults after disconnecting the battery. Need to leave it disconnected for about 30 mins. Usually clears after driving a couple of miles. If the airbag light stays on a useful fault code reader is OBDeleven that also resets fault codes. Basic version is about £50 and pro version about £80. Since dealers charge about £100 to run a diagnostic they are worth considering.
