Well, still no idea what that telephone fuse is doing on the MMI loop, but to solve the issue, I wired the fuse to power only on ignition not constant live. Car still struggled to start in the morning, but it did on first try, it's never done that before. It was constantly drawing 7 amps, got it down to 0.9. I think I need a new battery as that's been up and down for so long. Let's hope this fixes it for now and I can remove the second battery. I fitted the missing mmi mechanism, somehow it doesn't fully sit in the dash, but pops up fine and the switches on the mechanism are now pressed. That's a job for another day..

I have no idea what's causing this drain, it was back at 10% again this morning, regardless of what I thought the other day 🙂 I've got a lot to do, my passenger seat stopped moving, but that's OK as I have to put the original box in both seats since the memory doesn't work when I swapped them. Got new headlights, the MMI screen is a mystery to me as to how it's held in. I think I need an expert to solve that battery first, in England it's not too bad, but Finnish winters are hard on batteries, well, everything really 🙂

After using VCDS to remove the telephone from the list of installed components, the battery meter is now showing 100% in the morning, before it would range from 10 to 50%. I know it's unreliable, but it is a change. I rebuilt the mmi mechanism yesterday with the new bronze gears, what a struggle that was, so I'm going to try to fit it to my car today, I have no idea how my current screen is attached to the car, it looks like it's glued in. One thing I noticed is my alarm doesn't chirp when I lock the car, yet the alarm has gone off a few times when the battery is low. Can that be coded out with vcds? I should check the alarm batteries.

The screen came back on once I put the Telephone fuse back in - so no further forward. I used VCDS and removed the telephone from the list of devices installed in the car, which is weird it was there since I don't have a phone. Received my MMI screen today, used from a 2009 car. I have the bronze gears, so I think I'll put those on the mechanism since it's put of the car. I think I'll tackle that at the weekend. Thanks for the encouragement. I have no idea how my current screen is mounted to the dash, it seems to be stuck at the top underneath of the dash. This should be fun..

Got back in the car, after pulling the telephone fuse out. MMI comes on, I now realise I've never seen the Audi screen before, it must have been always on, and now it's stuck in a boot loop. MMI logo for 10 seconds, then black screen. MMI reset didn't help. I'll look at it tomorrow..

Checked the fuses - the car was drawing 8amps without the engine on. Systematically going through the fuses, here were the issues; Slot 25 passenger side - Telephone. Was drawing around 4-5 amps even though the car has no phone 🙂 Slot 21 driver's side - blank but has a 5 amp fuse in it, drawing around 1 amp. Any idea what this is? Slot 39 driver's side - Door control front right. Not really an issue, the door was open to check the fuses. Once I've received the MMI mechanism and fit it to the car, I'll check again. But either way, this is a huge difference already. Let's see how it goes 🙂

Standard MMI and screen. I've ordered the whole mechanism secondhand, when it arrives, I'll fit it back to original and see if that helps. No battery issues, everything looks good if I drive it. Battery charges fine and will work fine all day, it's always the next morning that it struggles to start.

Since getting the car in February, I've had a battery drain. I hooked up 2 batteries but still no joy. So, I noticed my mmi screen stays up and checking with vcds, there is a report of no control head adaptation. Thinking it was those gears, I removed the trim to find there is no housing at all for the mmi, it's been removed and the screen is somehow stuck in place. Had the battery checked, it's OK and the alternator is charging. Would a non closing mmi screen cause battery drain? Does it have to close to turn off the feature? If so, how does one go about having a different screen from a newer system installed? I'm just looking at getting a used mechanism to fix this or get one of those modern interfaces with a new screen.
