Hi All,
Total newbie here (hope i'm posting in the right place).
Was really hoping someone could help.
I have an A3 1.8T FSI, 2007 S-line model - had it from new, almost all motorway mileage, FSH, it's been running really well - until last week that is! Tensioner for timing chain broke, car won't start, no compression, valves likely bent, small oil leak also present - in a nutshell, Ouch!!
My mechanic has suggested that rather than just fixing the head it might be better off getting someone to recondition/remanufacture the engine. I know someone who can do this, a real rebuild specialist (but NOT an Audi specialist).
So, my question is, does anyone know, if when reconditioning an existing engine, upon putting it back into the car, does it need reprogramming?? - I was under the impression that the ECU wouldn't be touched!
Any help or advice would be much much appreciated! (i'm going a bit crazy at the moment :( ).
Cheers in advance.

Do reconditioned engines need reprogramming?? (A3 1.8T FSI)

Thanks so much James - a load taken off my mind! Phew! :)
Just to recap, the engine will only be reconditioned and then placed back into the car - same engine code, same setup, so yup, the ECU won't/shouldn't be touched.
I'm looking forward to getting it back now.
BTW - your S5 looks amazing!
