Well, I always take my TomTom when go on longer trip. I have more confidence in TomTom , but Audi sat nav gives good traffic info.

I have SD based SatNav on a 64 plate A3. Gives the most bizzare routing sometimes. And its UI is appallingly slow. I just use my phone now with Google Maps or Waze. Free. Great routing, and they automatically route around traffic. Can also share my location/route if I wish with anyone. Google Maps does offline navigation too now. For mounting the phone I use this:

  2. I say don't waste your money.

For me the SD based Sat Nav (at least) is in my opinion very inferior to what you'll get from, say, Google Maps on your phone to the point that, whilst I have the Audi SD based Sat Nav, I choose to use my phone instead. My experience with Audi's implementation is it's embarrassingly slow to set up a destination and has demonstrated some bizarre routing choices.  Only nice feature is the automatic offer to navigate to the nearest petrol station it's aware of if fuel gets really low.

Voice recognition via the MMI is also far inferior (both recognition performance and options for what you can say) to what I get from my phone in the car (in my case Android)

You can get something like this to neatly 'install' your phone in your A3 :-)

  3. If you're entitled to the card and were not supplied one (i.e. you bought a spec with Sat Nav supposed to be present and usable) maybe you can go back to the seller.

  4. I have Audi's sat nav that happened to be fitted to a 2nd hand A3 I acquired. Also agree it's nowhere near as good as, in my case, Google Maps on a phone. I've seen odder routing, less effective traffic avoidance, and the voice control of Google Maps is awesome - tell it to "Navigate to xyz" and you have the power of Google behind it to find and direct you the place you actually intended to go :). I appreciate Google and their services aren't liked by some.

I was, however, amused in the dealership when looking at another A3 without Sat Nav, that the Nav key is still of course present on the center console and if you press it you get a message that Nav isn't installed - like a permanent reminder from Audi it was an option you chose NOT to buy on your new car . Having said that, it's probably not an option I'd have chosen for the price - it's one of those technologies that's advancing rapidly enough to be better via a constantly updated app on a phone, in my opinion.

  5. I think it depends what you prefer.

I newly have an A3 s-line (not saloon) with standard sports suspension. There ARE various driver modes (which I think affect suspension too?) though I've left it on automatic for now. It's definitely harder than my old Focus Diesel (!) but I like it. Of course that isn't helped by the low profile tires on 18" rims either (which also doesn't isolate road noise so well - but I may just be noticing more as the car is so quiet otherwise).

Only really notice the harder suspension on particularly bad roads when I (and passengers) get moved around a bit more (feels like the car is less 'settled'). I've not felt my bones have been shaken any more than they would if I'd chosen to drive my Ford into pot holes.

I didn't buy the car new, but not regretting I didn't find one of the few available with the sports suspension 'deleted'.

Let us know how you get on... I, for one, am enjoying driving more...

  6. Wow. That site has it as (for the only 18 rim they list) as:

    225/40R18 Y 92    Front: 2.2 BAR / 32 PSI    Rear: 2.0 BAR / 29 PSI

For that tyre, Audi door label has it as 39/36 PSI! That's one hell of a difference...

Think I will split the difference between the two speed ratings on the Audi door label for that size of tyre ...

  7. Yea, it's not knowing what happened in that first 1500km... but you never do unless the car is brand new...

It was on a flexible rather than fixed service plan (I guess the owner thought he was to do > 10K a year), but the dealer did an oil change anyway, which after 18 months is just as well. I will be doing > 10K a year ;-)

  8. Hi

Just got an A3 1.4 150PS COD S-Line (from Audi dealer). 18 months old (64 plate) with just 4000 miles on it. Just hoping such a low mileage (short trips etc) doesn't drive engine problems later on and that it doesn't suffer from the much discussed oil consumption issues...

    Lovely car though! :-)
