  1. Hi,

can someone please let me know the part number for the complete unit (adaptive cruise control)?

mine has failed and audi want £2,500 to get it done. they cannot even tell me the part number as it is company policy not to do so.

    thanks

Sorry the vid turned out to be useless, is there any warranty on the car? if not then try a local garage and see if they will undertake the work needed and see if they will do the headlights at the same time.

    hi paul,

audi want £281 for the bulb and to change it lol

just checking my warranty now to see if both problems are covered.....

  3. ok so the you tube video didn't relate to my 2014 S5. It is a different set up behind my lights.

Anyway, the headlight unit will not come out even after removing all bolts. As the unit will not pull out, i can't get to the back because of the cover of the air filter.

So off to audi to get my pants pulled down :( on top of the £90 i paid foe the HID bulb unit.

add this to the adaptive cruise control not working on a 2014 with 17k miles on it!

first audi ive had and with after being told about how i would never have any problems with an audi....this is my fourth in the first 6 months of owning one!

    God i miss my M3 :(

  4. Hi,

    Hope someone can help me.

    Two things:

    1) I have a 2014 S5. My adaptive cruise control doesn't seem to work. I have a non flashing, permanent red light on the dash. I have fiddled with the lever to make things work but nothing happens?

    2) I have a small round side headlight bulb out. Hallford's said the housing is too complicated for them. Anyone know how much Audi charge to change?

    Many thanks

    Gary

Glad this got sorted Gary and deffo a bonus that it didn't cost you! :)

I think you didn't get a response, not because people were rude but because I don't think people knew how to help.

Obviously on here we try and help where we can :) and I hope it hasn't put you off the club.

    Cheers

    Steve

no offence taken anyway Steve, was just posting some hopefully useful info :)

  6. just in case anybody is interested........

found out that the problem was the gearbox. Audi diagnosed it incorrectly as the Rear Diff and replaced a new Diff and gearbox.

as the car only has 14k miles on it, Audi didn't want me bad mouthing their Quattro system so they paid for it at a cost of £16k! :)

  7. Hi All,

    i have recently bought an Audi S5 - 2014 15k miles only.

i have a noise underneath the car behind the driver seat. It can only be described a s a double click (just like unlocking your car by remote)  there is no pattern to it.

slowing down / changing gear auto and paddles, speeding up, braking....i have tried everything, nothing triggers it. it just happens randomly. it is so annoying i have to turn my music up!

audi have stripped the gearbox, carried out a 24 point check and haven't a clue as the car looks tip top! At £180 per hour i have had to pull the car out of there. they won't cover me themselves as the car is 2 months out of warranty (don't worry, they will pay for it by the time i am finished with them).

Anyone else ever had a noise like this?

Interested to know what was causing this usage? I'm having the opposite experience in trying to find the Maximum possible usage. I did 700 miles last week with Google Maps turned on and traffic data enabled. i did some online searches, loaded pages on local points of interest and accessed street views?

I streamed  one half of a football match and my wife was streaming iPlayer on the journey, i used 1.4GB. i just can't understand how you'd use 7 GB unless your passengers were streaming movies?

Interesting. this is all good feedback for me. i will know once i top up the card O2 have given me. i will then trial it with 5GB.

A little update on my last post - enabled Audi Online and had a play while on Holiday. Sucked 7GB of data in a week or so!

Virgin did not send an SMS warning of going past data limit either... so £2 excess usage fee until I called them - fees dropped due to SMS error...

Beware Audi online - tis greedy!

Well that has thrown a cat amongst the pigeons, especially reading Davis post before your's!  What exactly was draining your data? Streaming?

I have a 2GB SIM (Virgin) and normally Rollover about 1GB / Month.

I have the Wifi Hotspot enabled and on long journeys with kids this is a blessing using it to browse with Tablets. Also stops Daughter from using up her megre Data allowance on her Phone.

I have my iPhone paired with Car for general calls and there is no conflict (you have to define what phone to make calls on)

I also use the SIM for testing at work so remove it periodically - this is where I found a flaw - If you are not careful reinserting you can miss the slot and lose the SIM into the console.

Google earth is my default satnav view - I have it zoomed to street view sometimes (nice feature with touch pad to pan around).

Note you can have a rationale alert enabled each time the MMi tries to utilise a data connection.

More pro's than con's with SIM for me.

Sorry Gary, not sure about that one...hopefully someone with more knowledge of the system can help?

No problem, Trevor, thanks for your input on the data usage

    Hi Gary

I have always found Google Earth to be quite high on data consumption so would always cache the memory on WiFi for the trip by enlarging the route to high detail and zooming back in again....wouldn't then take up as much data. Obviously different for the Sim in the Audi, can't really hook into WiFi there.

Let us know what you find, but I think 1Gb a month may just cover it

    Cheers,  Trevor

    Hi Trevor,

I have heard that the sim conflicts with the bluetooth phone function (i.e you cannot make or receive calls while the sim is in use)?

  13. Hi,

    Audi S5 2014.

i have ordered a 4G Three Sim card to put in my car. i have the entertainment package High and it has a Sim slot and 2 x SD card slots.

the sim has 12Gb of data on it lasting 12 months.

    I have two questions:

    1) Will this sim be ok to use? (i.e. will it work?)

    2) Do you think the Google Earth sat nav map will use up the data quickly? Or isn't it as draining as a streaming video for instance?

    Many thanks

    Gary

It could be some play in a link (such as an engine mount or similar) that is being stressed on acceleration/deceleration and making a 'clunking' noise which would be indicative of a worn bush

    hi Trevor,

If i find you are correct, should one of these be worn after £14k miles?

    thanks

    Hello Gary,

    Thanks for the extra detail.

I would most certainly refer this to the Audi dealership (possibly the one/s who servived it). OK, it's 2 months out of warranty, but you might find that Audi may be prepared to make some contribution towards any costs, due to the low mileage/ service history and the short elapse of time since the warranty has expired.

Can I ask if you bought this from an Audi dealership, another car sales dealer, or privately?

If not privately, it would certainly be worth contacting the last registered owner to enquire whether there is any history of this problem. It is just possible that if so, this may have been reported as a fault ( within the warranty period) but not rectified. If this is the case, this would be an important string to your bow in any discussions with Audi.

If purchased from a dealer then it should be possible to get this problem rectified - without cost to yourself?

    Kind regards,

    Gareth.

    Did you get this sorted?

    Hi Both,

not sorted yet. Took it to Kwik fit for them to check underneath / wheels etc.. they found nothing. They took it for a test drive (two of them) and said its nothing they have come across before. The one Kwik Fit guy said it is like a central locking noise and afterwards i understood his view. it sounds like when you remote unlock your doors. but it is coming from underneath the car. very frustrating!

i am going to take it to audi.

    Hi Gary

So doesn't make a difference if the engine is cold or hot? driven hard or not? Do you feel the noise is definitely coming from the gearbox?

All you could do is ask but then again I'm not 100% on if they would look and cover the part/s under warranty. or you could do an extended warranty then take it in?

    Regards

    Bradley

yeah no difference either cold or hot engine. not driven hard. driven hard you wouldn't hear it. not definitely coming from the box, just feels that way.

thank for the link mate. will take it in and then maybe go down this route if they fob me off.

cheers Bradley, i appreciate your help.

    Hi Gary

Welcome to the forum!, I've moved this to the A5 Section for now, Sure this would be the correct location.

As Magnet has stated, is it an automatic?

Are you able to supply us with a video at all? phone on car seat and record sound?

Does it make the noise when you take your foot of the accelerator then re apply? (when you're cruising and not taking your foot of to change gear)

    Best Regards

    Bradley

    Hi Bradley,

i wouldn't pick anything up on record. It is not a persistant / consistant noise. There is no pattern to it. All i know it is like a scrape / click and a clunk all in one but not really loud.

so frustrating that i can't describe it in words. It is an automatic (7 speed dual clutch). the noise comes when cruisiing / slowing down , speeding up, basically whenever it feels like it!

Do you think Audi would check it over for considering it is only 2 months out of warranty?

    Hello Gary,

I'm afraid I'm just going to be asking for a bit more information which might help others in giving you helpful advice.

Can we take it this is an automatic?

I notice the car is a 2014. Is this still under warranty, or if not, how many months is it out.?

Does the car have service history, since I would assume that despite its low mileage, it should have been serviced on an age basis?

    Kind regards,

    Gareth.

p.s. Mods:- is it worth moving this (and others under this section) to the correct section?

    Hi Gareth,

sorry about the post in the wrong area, still getting used to site.

    automatic - full history

out of 3 year warranty by 2 months

  19. hi All,

    Audi S5 2014 - 14k miles.

i have just changed from having M3's the last few years.

can you tell me if it is normal to hear an occasional clunking noise (i.e is it the gearbox changes?).

the only thing that makes me doubt that it is the gearbox, is that it sometimes happens when it isn't changing gear.

i just cannot see how it can be anything sinister with only 14k miles on the clock?

Or could it be a bearing??

  20. thanks Steve. useful information.

i am purely after performance improvement (not that i am unhappy with the current performance ha ha).

    i have a 2014 with 14k miles on it.

    many thanks

    Gary
