Hey @Steve Q thanks for the response. Turns out it was because the car was on Axel stands and all four wheels have to be turning or the ESP "thinks" you are in a skid. I put all the wheels back on, dropped it on the ground and it hasn't happened since 👍1 point

Thanks so much Gareth. Halfords said it’ll need replacing in the next few months. Audi tell me it has a dead cell and is urgent. I’ll follow your advice and get a quote from my local guy. your time and patience have made me feel so much better. Thank you. Sarah x1 point

1 pointI've now found out what the other three buttons do..... you can program them with a transponder at the front of the car to open remote control property gates and garage doors. Thanks for everyone's input.1 point
