Keyfob fail - opening the tailgate?
Thanks for the detail Silverdagger Unfortunately it’s not that because I found the spare fob and it unlocks the tailgate. One fob “unlock” button press unlocks the front doors, a second click unlocks the rest. I read the owners manual (Doh! RTFM) and apparently if the fob battery fails and the drivers door is opened using the actual key, that should unlock all doors, the fuel flap and the tailgate. In my case using the key just unlocks the drivers door (and maybe the passenger side I didn’t check). This could leave me in a very awkward situation unable to load or unload! Rather awkward with a mountain bike needing to go in the back far from home I appreciate you trying to help. Enjoy your 3.2.

Keyfob fail - opening the tailgate?
Hi all, great to have this forum ';~} - I'm a B7 lover, my Avant 3.0 TDI Quattro has been such a great car. I'm hoping someone knows about using the metal (or the plastic emergency) key when the keyfob fails. I had to open my car with the actual metal key today, soon after I did that - the factory alarm sounded, I tried re-locking but that didn't stop it, a minute or so later it did stop. I dont know hopw to deal with that if I need to drive 2nd question - the key opened the doors OK and presumably made the car start-able / drive-able, but it did not unlock the tailgate. Is there a trick to that tailgate opening please thanks

3.0 V6 TDI longevity
Stevey, Gareth, thanks. The garage who diagnosed* also advised doing the work (*not my normal one as engine work was anticipated and they dont do that) I'll get them to do a though check over too, oils etc, whilst they have it apart. I do use Millers Diesel Power Ecomax additive Thanks for your thoughts, I bought the car in late 2017 with a full service history, it seemed to have been maintained 'no expense spared' at Audi dealership. Since then, it's been serviced by a local Audi specialist [ex main dealer "master" mechanic].

3.0 V6 TDI longevity
Hi all. love my 130K 2006 A4 Quattro. Just spent 1K on brakes and tyres. Now, Sod’s law, the aircon compressor has failed with the drive pulley broken up it seems . Maybe another 1K or more to fix. I’ve been reading about some common and fairly serious issues with that engine: timing chain tensioners (Pre 2007), blocked injectors cause fuel starvation, blocked heater core, HP fuel pump can break up so whole fuel system has to be replaced. Has anyone’s 3.0 V6 TDI made it far past 130k or is mine “end of life”? thanks B7 fans what a great car.

Not starting & doors not opening!
There’s a drain down there somewhere I expect. My issue was on an A6 I had where there was a rubber gland to release water. The mechanic I use removed that and no problems after. If it continues maybe test with a hosepipe. If the water reaches a certain level it gets into the footwell (again on an A6 but you’d expect all to be similar). It’s stuff like this that make going to an Audi trained guy so useful.

Leak in passenger footwell is probably leaves blocking a drain under the bonnet back near the bulkhead. if you replaced 3 batteries in a year surely warranty was applicable.

Ps if You have replaced 3 batteries in a year, you should be claiming under warranty. Including for the one that cracked and leaked. Batteries usually have a multi year warranty.

Sorry about your troubles. Halfords I feel don’t always employ the best mechanics plus they can’t possibly know every car. Go to an Audi specialist. Sorry you had to get the manifold replaced. They are so expensive. I hope the other side doesn’t fail. my mechanic (ex Audi guy near Brighton, much lower than dealer prices) told me the P2015 and P2020 errors can be ignored. But I didn’t like driving with the “ check engine” light on. Can’t get into the car? Do you mean even using the key in the drivers door? If the central locking is faulting, that may have been caused by the flat battery. You seem to like the mobile mechanics you used, they should be able to help you with why the battery is draining. or a good auto electrician. Try get a recommendation or Google for your area. car troubles! I feel for you

The bracket from x8r works (so far) on my 3.0 Quattro. https://x8r.co.uk/ The 2 stainless steel brackets (one each side) simply limit travel rather than replacing any costly parts. Self fit is easy following their video £15.99 is massively cheaper than new manifold / motor assemblies.
