  1. Hi Steve, Thanks for the welcome buddy Yes...... seems about right ....... us Brits 2nd class as usual ...... and far too soft !! Id be much happier if Audi just told us all the truth !! It seems a pretty identical choice of words are used when problems post update are reported ! "its NOTHING to do with the update" ........... "It REALLY IS coincidental" ......... "We'll run a diagnostic & get back to you" .......... & my personal favourite ..... "As a GOOD WILL gesture we'll reduce the needed coincidental repair costs" !!!! Im not hunting compensation ...... couldnt care less....... just want some truthful answers ........ I know there are more people that report no issues post update & great !! Happy Audi customers ....... but it seems to me that Audi have taken a gamble on the law of percentages ........ probably less than a 100th of 1 percent reported problems & subsequent loss of future customers which im sure VAG would of taken hands down after the revelation !! Anyway ....... had a good chat with their service department today when their service manager called me to ask why id cancelled my MOT & Service booking !! Told them the truth !! Will update when i know the outcome of what ive asked for Not holding my breath !!
  2. Hi all, newbie here so please be gentle Figure i need to share this ....... jump on this forum ....... even if to only get it of my chest and vent a little frustration sumwhere Heres my story so far................ My Local (ish) Audi dealership is TEESIDE AUDI (not the nearest but better for me work wise (dropped it in on way to work)) My wifes Audi A1 1.6TDI (E189) Sport in Misano Red - 2011 - cars done 39k - owned from new & had several options added on ordering (xenons, LED interior lights, sat nav, upgraded alloys, 5yr service pack ect ect ect) - ALWAYS SERVICED & MOT'ed (after 3 years) BY MAIN DEALER When the scandal broke...... we had the usual Audi letters saying a 'Fix' was in the pipeline & would be notified when this was ready ! Fast forward well over a year............. (several letters....... approval needed ect ect ect) and finally ........ 'Sorted' ........ a 'Fix' (update) was approved and all we now needed to do was book the car in with our local dealer Seems the E189 '1.6 TDI' was the very last in the line of being sorted ! for what ever reason ??? Bit of 'pre update history' ........ Car was a year old when it had a new EGR fitted under warranty ....... not that this is relavant i guess ? Anyway....... during the awaited update approval .... the car had been to Audi a couple of times for service & MOT Whilst there i chatted to a service technician in the garage (long story but car failed an MOT on the private plate letter spacing as was rushing on the morning & forgot to stick the 'correct spacing' plates on prior to taking !! Doh ) ...... i digress........ i quized him about the proposed update ?? he told me a fix was awaiting approval & at present it seemed like it was a easy fix re-designed airbox addition along with a software update ! Job sorted Fast forward several month later.. (maybe a year even ??) .. (must have been a service ??) - spoke again with service team & another technician to this time be told ' wow.... the E189 (1.6TDI only) fix was still awaiting approval but it looked like it was now going to be a MAJOR 3 DAY JOB at least !! head off..... injectors ... ect ect ect' !! BIG expensive job but of course funded by Audi themselves as it was a recall/emissions scandal fix !! Fast forward again to the arrival of the Audi letter saying 'fix approved please book your car in with your local dealer - it shouldnt take no longer than a hour to fix' ??? Hmmmmmmmm ???? i thought ???? Obviousley not the '3 day BIG JOB' that was mentioned previously ?? Car booked in & update done in August 2017 !! HUGE MISTAKE !!!!!!!!! Picked it up & INSTANTLY noticed a difference ...... i thought it was driving like a 1940's double decker bus but as its my wifes car & i dont drive it that often i figured id let the boss (wifey) decide on that one !! 3 days later ...... wifes report ...... same as many on here really ....... No power... judder...... stalling ........ fan running on after switch off...... burning smell & lower MPG's !! basically driving like a bag of '_______' (choose ur own word) ........ I think if ANYBODY would know how the cars driving it would be my Wifey as had it from brand new !! Got intouch with dealership..... booked in for diagnostic but told a £60 charge would be payable if nothing related to update was found ! Wife used my car & i needed a courtesy car...... £15 charge i was told ..... WHAT ?? you wreck my wifes car & u want me to pay £15 ?? Its not the amount ... its the principle .... anyway.... after speaking to service manager they gave me a courtesy car GRATIS Car in dealership ALL DAY & recieved a txt approx 1630hrs to say 'Your cars ready to collect' ...... no fone call ...... or ........ we found this & that wrong ect ect .... just a please collect your car txt !! Get to dealership (Teeside Audi) to be told .... waffle waffle waffle .... yes sir no sir three bags full sir .... diagnostics & road test done .... found NOTHING WRONG & £60 please Told them the car drives like a 40's double decker bus since update... (we should know..... well my wife should) & the DPF light had been on 'Weekly' since update (usally twice a year (after 2 years ownership) & a quick blast down the motorway got rid for another 6 months) ....... quick note: Durham to Edinburgh (day 1) (me driving.... bit quicker than wifey) Edinburgh to Durham (day 2) ........ Day 3 .... get in car on drive .... switch on ...... BINGO .... DPF light AGAIN !! Explain that Mr.Audi ??? After 20min chat with service manager & the usual 'cant find anything wrong' waffle ..... they decided to 'As a good will gesture' waive the £60 fee (id already refused to pay it anyway..... again .... not the amount but the principle) ...... they told me to bring it straight back as soon as ANY warning light came on !! I did ask them to check the warning light (DPF) history (as they had previously said data is stored in the vehicle memory prior to it going in for diagnostics) since update to confirm the 'every week on' since update ..... when i collected the car they said no such information was stored as only critical information is stored ???? DPF £1700 repair bill sounds pretty 'Critical' to me !! Took the car home ...... still drives like a bus ....... wifey not impressed & as a new car is due she now refuses to have anything related to VAG !! Even an advised (from me) PETROL !! so...... where we at ....... it seems many people are having very similar issues & not getting anywhere !! Firstly id like to say ...... I DONT BLAME THE DEALERSHIP !! TEESIDE AUDI have been brilliant !! Its NOT the dealerships fault as they are just the guys who implement the 'Fix' for our cars !! They are the guys that sold us the 'Best thing since sliced bread' vehicle based on what they were led to believe from the manufacturers !! It seems strange to me that an initial 'Air box & software update modification' ........ possible 'HUGE EXPENSIVE (at VAGs expense) 3 day job top end engine re build/modification' ....... to ......... fast forward over a year eventual '20 min plug-in software update solution' was found & approved as a fix ??? Were talking about a multi BILLION ££££££ company here !!! How is it the technical boffins that created the 'Cheat system' in the first place took so long on finding a simple 20 min plug-in update to sort it out ?? And another question ....... WHY was it the E189 1.6TDI seemed to be last on the list over the 2L E189 ??? please Mr.Audi ..... shed some light on that ???? My take on it is ...... all dealerships have been told (by the Billion ££££ company) that ANY problems arising AFTER an update would ALWAYS be coincidental regardless of our 'nothing wrong with the car in the YEARS before the update issue !! No ifs no buts !! END OF !! I read about 1 particular dealership offering to pay IN FULL the £3K+ repair bill on one condition .......... they could take the car to an authorised Audi independant (do they exist ??) who COULD PROVE the update was the cause of the multiple part failures !! REALLY !!!!! They already know this would be IMPOSSIBLE to do !! Hence the offer !! Several people here with post update issues are fighting with dealerships !! They are prestige franchises who operate strictly under the guidance of their bosses...... Its a livelyhood for the owners of such franchises....... They are basically doing & saying what they are told for fear of it being taken away from them !! Their bosses..... MR AUDI DIRECT !! Our fight is with them ...... not the dealership !! American VAG customers didnt have to do a thing ........ Their goverment did it all for them !! Wheres our goverment help/intervention ?? What also seems strange to me ..... and i have to make a point in saying (for fear of retribution)...... that this is MY OPINION ONLY (which i am with-in my rights to have) that how come ........ the initial update (piece of plastic thingy along with software update) was NOT APPROVED ??? Top end re build .... NOT APPROVED ??? to eventual ....... 20 min software only update approved & implemented ???? Answers on a postcard please Rant over ........ do i feel better Hmmmmmmmmm ........ NOPE !! Currently trying to convince my wife to get a new PETROL Audi ........ shes not having it just yet !! Car 'WAS' booked in for its MOT and a service ...... cancelled it this morning & told Audi why ...... also told them to give me a TOP price (considering our circumstances & the fact that weve had 4 brand new Audis over 15 years) for a trade in. I hold my breath Will update you all
