It's now sorted. When taken into the garage it first thought to be something on the aux belt. However the belt was removed and the noise was still there. So attention turned to the Cam belt. I asked them to replace it and the water pump as it was 2 years overdue anyway. The noise was coming from a Cam belt tension arm, and the water pump was leaking anyway.

Like Steve I can not hear anything unusual in your link. To pinpoint the noise you could try an old mechanic's trick with a screwdriver stethoscope. Place a large screwdriver tip firmly on various parts of the engine, then hold your ear against the handle. You'll be surprised just how noisy the bearings and pumps can be. I shan't insult your intelligence by warning you of the obvious dangers of this form of testing.

I have never though of that, good tip. I shall order a stethoscope and add it to my tools. Thank you

Thank you. Is this the aux belt or cam belt do you think? Its due cam. I am selling it so not planning on spending too much, just need the squeek sorted idealy.

I've watched/listened to the video more than once and can't point put the noise you are referring to. Sorry. Could you elaborate on the noise?

Thanks for the kind welcome. Its sounds like a squeek. I think i have narrowed it down now and its going in to garage next week.

Two points if it were mine:- 

If ( and only if) you are handy with the spanners then remove the auxiliary drive belt and check if the noise is still present.

Find a recommended local diesel specialist (your local taxi drivers usually have good recommendations) and entrust a diagnosis to them. 

I think you are wise to be concerned about this since the car is trying to tell you something is wrong!

I would treat its solution with some urgency.

Perhaps you could let us know how you get on Thomas.

I am handy with a spanner but only with certain tasks, such as breaks. Someone who also knows about cars had a listen in person and thinks its something to do with auxillery belt as well.

Its booked in on Friday so will see.

Good Afternoon.

I am a new member to this forum. I was hoping someone might have an idea what this noise is in the attached video. I have owned the car for a year and it has always done it. It happens after 10 seconds after a cold startup when left to idle, it goes after a few mins. You can hear it better towards the end of the video when the mic is near the wheel arch. Millage is 55k. 2011, A3 S Line 2.0 TDI.

Any advice would be much appriciated!
