  1. Hi I've just had my Audi A4 2.0 Auto, 2001, hooked up to diagnostics after the engine light came on, and it threw up 2 codes: 17887 Brake Boost Vacuum System: Mechanical Failure 17536 P1128 Long Term Fuel Trim - System too Lean (Bank 1) I've googled a bit and it seems to be saying check hoses for leaks etc. I'm pretty poor at mechanical things so I'm going to find a garage tomorrow, but does anyone have any ideas of what it means if both codes are showing? What could I be looking at price wise? Cheers
  2. I have the Audi A4 2.0 SE petrol automatic from 2001 (newer model from that year). It has had it's cam belt changed recently and had a service 1000 miles ago. I've got it booked into a third mechanic tomorrow for another opinion. It did make a noise like rattling but it drives well and the only codes on the diagnostic were to do with the vac system which were apparently fine!
  3. Had my first bad moment already, engine management light came on today, I have posted in the relevant forum :(
  4. Was driving home today and the engine management light came on. I went to a local mechanic at a back street garage, he plugged it in to the diagnostic and it came up with three codes which he said indicated a split in a vac hose, he checked them and said they were all fine so cleared the light and said to go back if the light came back on. While he had the bonnet open he heard that there was a bit of a rattling noise from the back of the engine and said that the timing chain needed replacing. The cam belt was changed around 5,000 miles ago. The car is a 2001 model with 59000 miles on the clock and has had 11 services in its life. He quoted me £400 for the timing belt change and said it would take best part of a full day to do. He said it would be very messy if I didn't get it done and it went. I then took it to a second garage and the guy there listened to the engine and said he could see why the first guy said that but in his opinion it was normal and there was no problem. Admittedly I did hear the noise but I'm not clued up enough on engines to know anything about it. Think I have something to worry about?
  5. Thanks. I was a bit weary about buying a 12 year old car, especially as my last 2 cars were brand new, but decided to go for that over a newer one with higher mileage and to be honest I'm really pleased with it so far. Just looking to upgrade a few things now because I miss some creature comforts my old car had, like Bluetooth, parking sensors etc. thanks for the welcome.
  6. Hello, I've just joined the world of Audi having owned 3 Seats and just selling my 08 Seat Leon FR 2.0 TDi (mainly because the ride was so firm, my 18 month old baby was sick in the back every time - but only in that car!). I've just bought a mint condition Audi A4 2001 Y reg, 2.0 petrol auto with 50,000 genuine miles on the clock. Compared to the Seat it's not as fast, or fun to drive, but it's a completely new driving experience. Feels like driving my favourite armchair so I'm very pleased with it so far (owned it 5 days so far!). Anyway, I was a member of seatcupra.net and I need an Audi alternative now so here I am! I'm based in Southport right now. Greetings to you all! Concho (John)
