    Thanks Gareth,

Quick question, as I can't find it in the manual nor online, but where is the battery? I've charged the battery via trickle charger, but lights still keep coming on, so need to change the battery, if I can find it first....

    Thanks.

Hi mate, sorry your no further forward with your fault. Your battery should be in the boot under the spare wheel (for future reference) but I agree with Gareth, get it checked first as they're not cheap to replace and a good possibility it's not the battery that's causing the fault.

I had a few lights come up on the dash recently and it turned out to be something completely different to what I would have thought. These modern day cars with all the electronics can be very difficult to fault find unless you know exactly what you're doing. The vcds lead/software can be very useful if you can get hold of one.

Good luck and please keep us all updated on your progress, we all like to help each other if possible.

    Cheers

Hi Steve, the picture isn't great but it looks like the interior temperature sensor for the auto air con.

Yeah I'll do that, cheers Steve 👍

  4. Decided to buy myself a vcds kit and got it delivered during the week. I'm going to plug it into the car today and see what shows up.

Does anyone know how to make changes to the car with this lead? just things like changing the DRL brightness and the dial sweep on start up etc.

I've been on to Ross Tech website but doesn't really give you an instruction manual as such.

    Any help/advice would be appreciated.

  5. I certainly would bother with the updates if it's just occasional use.

Glad you didn't put it into the car as you never know what damage it might have done but we learn from our mistakes and we've all done it.

Sorry to hear you were scammed and hopefully you'll get a refund from your credit card company.

Good shout to put the names up, hopefully save someone else getting the same.

Yeah, I'm just outside Glasgow. It's probably a company somewhere in India or something using a Glasgow address 😡

You shouldn't have to cut the bumper bfor a swan neck or detachable type.

    Cheers

    Steve

I've fitted swan neck detachable towbars to my previous cars (albeit not Audi's) and although no bumper cuts are normally required you may need to cut the undertray which is not visible.

If you are buying one, just make sure it states No bumper cuts required.

  7. Hi Howard, I'm not sure if you can buy an SD card from somewhere else with the updated version already loaded but I'd be wary of not getting a genuine Audi one.

If you don't really need or use the sat nav that often then I'm sure the cost of an updated version won't be worth it. I have a 2014 car and the sat nav has never been updated and it works fine when I use it occasionally.

  8. Thanks for your reply. I can hear the motor going when I pull the epb button but it's only holding the rear left when it's faulting. I had the rear right wheel off and disconnected the connection to the motor, cleaned and sprayed with contact cleaner but it still did it once after that but hasn't done it since and that's about a week now so I'll see how it goes.

  9. Hi all,

Looking for a bit of advice on the electronic park brake. My car has come up with a park brake fault 2 or 3 times now over the last couple of weeks.

I don't know if it's the caliper sticking or an electrical fault and the light only comes on randomly after the car has been parked.

The P symbol comes up within a red triangle on the dash with a line through it and also a message saying the auto-hold function not available.

Also, the light on the park brake button on the console flashes red. It only does this for a short time and after stopping and starting a couple of times it seems to clear again and all works fine.

When it faulted yesterday I stopped purposefully on an uphill and applied the park brake via the button as normal but the rear brakes seemed to only be holding the N/S/R wheel and not the O/S/R which makes me think it's more of a mechanical issue with the caliper of the O/S/R.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

So fault is persistent even during milder weather. Drove back from Reading Sunday evening - outside temperature was around 10 deg C, pulled up at home and there it was sticking out again.

Have booked the car into Audi Bristol on Monday for investigation. When they told me the soonest they could see my car was Feb 15th I did raise an eyebrow. Did mention Car was last serviced by them and this is a warranty fault and the wait time reduced from 1 month to 1 week.

Will let you know the outcome.

Have you tried a stronger solution of screen wash? Since niedzial mentioned that I put in some stronger mix and it's never happened since 🙂.

That's good you have it booked in, eventually. It's amazing what they can do when it suits them 😉 Yeah, let us know how you get on with it.

  11. I can only assume that they pop out when the water freezes inside them as it expands and then go back in when the ice melts.

I didn't attempt to push mine back in, just left them to go in on their own when the temp. came back up and I've not had any issues since putting in a stronger mix of screenwash.

  12. Happy New year all 😉

Hi guys, hope you all had a good Christmas/New year.....

I've recently noticed when the outside temperature is pretty cold that the headlight washer jets stay popped out of the bumper, they do go back in once the temp. rises again.

Just curious to see if anyone else has noticed this and if there's anything I need to do about it?

    Cheers

Could have been an Airlock, another cause of a temporary Overheat will be a sticking thermostat.

Any sign of a drop of coolant in the header tank / expansion bottle? If there was an Airlock this would cause a drop in fluid level.

Sometimes these cars sit a while waiting for the milage to average out before going out to market although yours is bucking that trend. How long since you have had the car did the OH happen? Had you been on any extended runs before?

Check the quality of the coolant too - should be fairly clear with no emulsion collecting in the expansion bottle and no particles floating.

Hi mate, yeah I was thinking a possible air lock too but not sure if or how that can happen on a sealed system 🤔.

There didn't seem to be any loss of coolant and it's a light pink colour so I'm assuming that is ok. I only had the car about 10 days before the problem occurred and I'm assuming it had been sitting for a period of time before I got it. I drive the car on motorways and A roads at varying speeds/revs as normal.

It's not happened again but if anything comes to light I'll be sure to let you all know.

Thanks very much for all the help guys 👍👍

    Welcome to the forums James

Nice friendly atmosphere here with plenty of Audi owners to help where they can.

If its only happened once in the last 2 weeks it may just of been a glitch, is your temp gauge showing very high when the car is idle or on the go?

as for the warranty should it happen again make sure you take photos to show Arnold Clark.

i`m sure someone will pop along shortly with more advice

Please be sure to give the forum rules a quick view

    Paul

Hi Paul, sorry I missed your message, still trying to navigate this site. It took me long enough to put a new post up 🙈.

Hopefully it has just been a glitch and it doesn't give me any problems as the car is great in every way 👍

It's only ever done it that one time while i was driving and the temp seemed to rise very quickly from cold. I'm thinking it may have been a wee air lock in the cooling system 🤔🤔. Yeah if it happens again I will get photos but fingers crossed it's all ok.

Thanks mate and yeah I'll get a wee look at the forum rules once I find how to lol 👍

    Hello James,

Could you let us know what the temperature gauge was showing when the light came on? Can we take it that the gauge was reading above normal and had risen gradually from normal before the light came on?

When you say the light hasn't come in since, does this mean the temperature gauge has remained at normal (not a bit above) during its subsequent use?

Sine you have only recently bought the car, have you thought about contacting the previous registered keeper to enquire whether there has been any previous experience of this issue during their ownership? All good background knowledge.

    Kind regards,

    Gareth.

Hi Gareth, thanks for your reply.

It's not got a temperature gauge as such. It's a series of little lights between the numbers 50----90----130 and it has a temperature light just next to this. The temperature normally sits around 90 in normal running but on that day after driving for around 10 mins the lights were up at 130 and the red temperature light came on and a message on the dash came up telling me to stop the car.

It hasn't risen since and the little lights has only ever came on to the 90 mark.

The dealer said it came from Crewe Audi and I've contacted them but they couldn't really tell me much.

I've put a photo of the temperature indicator below.

    Cheers

  16. Hi all, I've just joined the group and wonder if anyone can help.

I recently bought a cracking 2014 A6 S line black edition 2.0l diesel ultra from Arnold Clark. The car has only just done 20k miles and is in immaculate condition. About 2 weeks ago the temperature light came on just after 10-15 mins driving and it came up on the dash to stop the car until it cooled. I didn't stop as I was on the motorway but let the car cruise about 60 mph. It cooled after about 15 mins and the light went off and it's never done it since. I've had the car back at Arnold Clark and they didn't find anything. Has anyone had any issues with overheating? I'm just concerned as I only have 3 months warranty with the car and don't want an expensive bill after the warranty has expired. Thanks in advance.
