  1. Hello everyone,

As a fan of all things audi I thought it's only right to join a forum or club. My local clubs are let's say, financed warranty wannabes.

Looking for a forum with a mix of cars and ages of cars, people etc and came across AOC. Had a read through some of the chats and guides and thought yes this is the one for me!

Anyway, I am a mechanic, I live in Tamworth staffs, I work on landrovers and jaguars for a living, purely because it pays the bills, but I have always had a passion for VAG, 😂. Only owned 1 Ford in the last 13 year's..

I have owned several vw and audi models, mostly older. A3 a4 golf tt a6 etc

I have worked on and fixed a variety of issues and faults from electrical to mechanical on most of the range apart from the really new stuff.

So hopefully I have some knowledge that I can share with you guys and gals in return for the knowledge I have taken from here in recent months.

Anyway, be nice to chat and maybe even see some faces of likeminded people at a future Audi meet.

    Chris

  2. Hi I think you have answered your own question, it does sound like it is burning water somehow. And the most obvious is the head gasket. Dip your oil and check for sludge or mayonnaise looking cream in the oil or the oil filler cap. Also sniff the coolant reservoir and see if it smells of anything other than coolant, like oil or fuel, carbon like smells, anything combustion like that.

Everything you have said is pointing towards head gasket.

If you access to a compression tester or a coolant pressure tester you can "basically" prove the head gasket.

With a compression tester one or more of the cylinder pressures will be down but that doesn't prove head gasket, just proves an issue with that cylinder. But in conjunction with a coolant pressure tester you can attach both testers to the engine, build up pressure in the coolant while watching the cylinder pressures. If the cylinder pressure rises even slightly, you have a blown gasket. And this test can be done the other way around, just watch the coolant pressure build as the engine is being cranked. This means air fuel oil etc is being pushed into the cooling system somewhere like the head gasket.

Something to start with mate hope it helps.

(Just to add, headgaskets are usually easy to diagnose with a multitude of faults or signs showing up. Check around the head gasket itself for signs of oil leaks and or coolant leaks for example)

  3. Agree with me or not but this is my opinion.

I think it could be a good idea if implemented to the first, say,  3 to 5 years of getting a license.

On motorways it could mean an end to traffic as everyone will travel at exactly the same speed, but no overtaking is the downside, you will enter the motorway behind a car and stay there until you come off.

In built up areas especially by schools and shopping centres etc, it's an idea that should have been used many years ago.

How many times have you done 35 or even 40 in a 30, I know I have, maybe lapsed judgment, but I have. Touch wood no accidents as yet.

Slate me if you wish but I am on the fence about this idea of speed restrictions. In some areas of driving I think it's brilliant.  But in others a terrible idea.

  4. The bv43 will have to be made into a hybrid with your turbo, and converted from electronic actuator to vacuum. The chra will be married up to Garrett  housings etc. Midland turbo do this hybrid upgrade. I bought one and fitted it about 12 months ago and haven't looked back! Clutch doesn't like the extra power though and I have a sachs SRE organic with matching pressure plate.

I would recommend a clutch upgrade as well as the turbo.😂

  5. Well I am in Tamworth, staffordshire so yes a fair distance away. By any chance did you comment on my video on YouTube?

Oh and if you can get hold of vcds I can run through what settings in basic settings to adjust to correct the service light. Some Audi's do suffer from being unable to reset if it has gone past the service due reminder. Have had to do it the vcds way a few times rather than the manual or simple way.

  6. Is it a b7? Should be on an 06.

Either way the principle is the same.

    Door card off,

A row of bolts t30 I think and some t25 hidden and slide the whole top of the window frame out of the door. Swap the regulator over and drop it back in.

(Bit more involved than that but that's basically it. Not a hard job 😁)

  7. I suspect the airbag the faultcode relates to is the drivers seat airbag. I would definitely start there before ripping out your trim.

Pull apart the plug under the seat, pinch the connections together slightly and reconnect. Should fix it. Do both sides while you have your tools out!

  8. I do vaguely remember doing it this way with just one key.

Ign lights on engine off, press and hold the unlock button for approx 5 seconds, let go of button and remove the key, press and hold lock button on remote for a few seconds and then all should work.

If not you are going to need a 2nd key to get it working.
