    Hi Guys

I have a 55 plate A4 B7 automatic I was driving along and decided to overtake the motor in front but there was nothing there. No growl from the turbo no engine revving nothing then the car started to pick up slowly I drove conservatively for the rest of the journey. Coming home all was brand new again bags of power and the turbo kicked in as usual.

There was no warning or nothing there is no engine management light I did a functionality check everything was ok. The cars due a major service but has only done 66000 I have it booked in next week for service. Any ideas so I am not flattened by what the service reveals my mechanic said could be fuel pressure or maf flow metre.

    Hello Jeff,

Is it Petrol or Diesel ?

Hi Radish, yes after a wild goose chase I finally found out the cause to my problem, there was a short circuit on the glovebox locking motor which was blowing the fuse to the comfort unit under the carpet in the passenger footwell, one of the plugs that is on the unit has only 2 wires which supplies the motor, I have removed the plug from the comfort unit and now the fuse stays as it should, both of the wires of this particular plug are both shorting to earth. I have used my Foxwell Pro scanner to finally sort out the problem, several times when checking the errors most of the faults were leading to security problems such as errors on door locks, petrol filler cover locks which were thrown up when locking the car using the fob, each time the comfort unit fuse blew. since removing the plug all as been well. The roof electrics is controlled through the comfort unit and when the fuse blows you get the roof error message (roof unavailable) try replacing the blown fuse and try the roof, I did and it worked as normal until I locked the car and the fuse then blew. I hope this helps you sort out your problem because I know how much frustration you must be going through trying to find this fault, it took me ages to finally find exactly what my problem was. The glove box lock motor is only activated when locking the car as it locks the glove box then. The boot problem also went away after removing this plug, I am sure this problem was caused because they share the same circuitry.

    Hello Alan,

Does this vehicle has Glove box locking motor ?

Is there any separate switch for closing the glove box ?

Sorry if it's a stupid question, just wanted to know about the function.

    Thanks for your consideration,

    Jose

Yeah i did mate, transponder in the passenger rear door, if you fine a really quiet spot and press your keystart button or better still get someone else to do it and sit next to the door you will hear the relay clicking. Change that transponder and it will all work again...

    Hello Rob,

Is there a Transponder in the rear door ?

Can you specify the component you replaced ?

    Thanks,

    Jose

Fixed it. It needed a new Pressure relief valve. It's got rid of a few other issues as well. Other symptoms included, car wobbling side to side at a stand still, which got progressively worse. engine on or around 1200 revs after start up first thing, also it would judder a little when setting off in first like it was about to stall for a split second before I got going. Car running mint now. 🙂

    Hey Joe,

Sorry for intervene in an older post.

Was it Fuel pressure control valve ? sorry if it is a stupid question.I am a newbie 🙂

Just got an A4 B7 Cab and having a few issues with it. The main issue at the moment is that the brake lights are stuck on and light up as soon as i turn the ignition on... i have checked the brake switch, disconnected the switch and the lights remain on, also removed the fuse for the brake lights and they still stay on. Any ideas??

I also have the traction light illuminated on the dash and the PRNDS permanently illuminated, although this did go off for a short time a few days ago before all illuminating again. Jist want to get the brake light issue sorted first though so i can still get around in the car. Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hello Shaun,

My friend got similar concern in his car..How did you get on this ?

    Thanks for the update,

What if..... the Les Pauls (independent garage that had my car for a month)  knocked the tubing or clamp, causing the coolant spill then they put it back in place correctly? As does not seem to be leaking currently. I've  cleaned it off and see if anymore forms on it.

    Hello Richard,

I am very sorry as you didn't get any replies.I know it is a older post..still want to know the update.

    Thanks for your time.

Many thanks for your help. Forum seems to be very helpful from what I can see which is why I joined 🙂. I have been quoted £147 supply and fit for a new stalk so will get that done when I get the chance 🙂

    Hey Steve,

I got the similar concern in my A8.It will be very helpful if you give the update on your concern.

    Thanks,

    Jose

Thanks Steve had a full carbon clean done recently and it had flagged up one of the glow plugs ,maf sensor and lumbar sensor but apparently the clean cleared all those faults! I didn't have the clean done to sort this problem but it made no difference to the starting issue but the car does run better! Think I will start with the glow plugs as this is a cheap job I can do myself! Thanks again. Btw very little smoke and not lost any coolant etc.

    Hey Neil,

Could you get the culprit ?

    Regards,

    Jose

    Hi,

Since I cleaned the electrical contacts to the EPB motor and cleared the fault code a while ago now it's been fine. About 2/3 weeks ago the same fault appeared but it cleared itself without me doing anything so I'm assuming it is just a poor/dirty connection. I'll keep any eye on it and have another look if the fault reappears.

Have you had the same problem?

    Thank you so much James.

Actually i don't have the concern..in future it may help me and others too.

    Have a good day 🙂

    Cheers

Cheers Dan, getting the codes read does sound like a good idea. I haven’t got AA unfortunately but if I can get the car to start this morning I will take it somewhere. Thanks for your help.

    Hello Jon,

Could you please give the update so it may help others..?

    Thanks,

    Jose

    Hi Guys,

Just joined the forum, I have a slight issue with my car and hoping to get a bit of advice on what to do next.

I have a 2005 Audi A4 S-Line 2.0 TDI 140 which I have owned since August last year. The car drove brilliantly at that point.

    The Problem

A couple of months ago, the car started to hesitate slightly on acceleration before the boost kicked in followed by black smoke coming out of the exhaust when it did pull away.

The problem has been getting worse and the car has now gone into limp mode (I think). EML on the dash and its not boosting, not revving past 3k rpm although it will boost at random sometimes and go back to normal for about 10 seconds. Then back to limp mode. I'm avoiding driving at the moment as I don't want to make it worse.

    Diagnosis

I had the codes read and had:

    P0234 - Turbo Overboost condition

P0101 - Mass air flow performance problem

P0404 - EGR valve performance problem

Following this I decided to remove the EGR Valve and throttle body and clean them up, refitting them with new gaskets. I also cleared the codes and EML and took it for a drive. Same problem still in Limp Mode. One thing I did notice is when the EGR valve was off the car is that the flap does not appear to be fully closed. Is this normal? I have a photo I can upload of this.

Can anyone advise on what to do next before I take it to a garage?

Is it worth changing the MAF? Could the turbo be at fault? Should I replace the EGR valve with a new one? Could it be something else all together that causing this issue?

One thing thats in the back of mind is that several months ago I accidentally put a bit of petrol in. No more than £10 worth of Petrol, then filled it up with lots of diesel afterwards £60 or so. I have been told that this could not cause the issues i'm having but I'm not so sure...

Any advice will be very much appreciated. I cant really afford to give it to a garage as I know it will cost me a bomb and I'm convinced it is probably something simple.

    Thanks for reading,

    David

    Hello David,

    Have your concern fixed ?

One of my friend got the same symptoms in his car.

    Thanks for your update,

    Jose

    Hi Tom,

Many thanks for replying. The car has reasonable heating controls on at the time of happening as well as the radio but that is about it. It seems to happen when throttle off but not sure if coasting has been engaged as all of a sudden the warning sound/message comes up with manual restart required. The rev counter goes to Off as in the picture and yes I do have it in Economy mode at all times. It's happened 3 times at this speed over the course of 4 months which makes it extremely hard to find the fault as it's so inconsistent, therefore the dealership couldn't find anything wrong the first time but they are having it back again. I've got one year of the warranty left as was registered in 2016 so I'll certainly be continuing to get this sorted as it could be very dangerous.

    Hey Jenny,

What is your Engine model ?

    Thanks,

    Jose

    Cheers for the reply Gareth.

I totally agree with what you are saying. Of course audi works that way, so do all of their rivals. But if you get my point, i dont want a oh it could be this, i want a yes this is the problem, and we can fix it.

Well both keys behave the same as in they open and close the doors. Thats about it.

Dont know what else to do, must now find an independant specialist.

    Thanks

Did you get the answer ?
