    Hi.

I have this same issue I think. Did your cars red brake warning light come on with this. My car drives perfectly but has a start and stop error code aswel as a brake warning message.

    Cheers

Definitely get it sorted before driving any more. £30/40 to replace the sensor, or £x00s on sorting the abs unit. Not worth the risk for you.

  2. My 2016 Avant is equally as confusing!

It’s the new shape Sept2016 registered. So it’s the B9 officially.
    But my V5 says B8.
The weightplate on the car says B8.5.

Never had any issues getting parts or anything like that but that may be luck!!

  3. I genuinely despair with Audi dealers. How and why would a new water pump be needed in this scenario?

The process of draining down probably did release a clog in the heater core which fixed the issue slightly. But if the pipe in is hot, then it’s not a water supply issue.

And why a new thermostat? Makes no sense at all.

Audi dealer service shops are pretty useless these days I have to say. My local one is full of kids fresh out of college, who just follow Audi’s online fix process, rather than diagnose anything.

My 65 plate A4 2.0tdi Avant currently with an Audi specialist awaiting a new AdBlue tank, pump and ECU at a cost north of 2K 🙄

This will be the second time this has happened, once at 65k back in 2019 and again now at 106k.

love the car but certain that Audi know about this issue and are reluctant to acknowledge the fact.

my dilemma is, do I keep the car once repaired or will other issues follow?

On the AdBlue topic, you can get the no restart message flashed out of the ECU at a fraction of the cost of replacement parts. Give Andy at https://ecuflash.co a call.

On the wider get rid or keep topic, I’ll never buy another Audi again. 16 plate B9 (actually B8.5 according to it’s car plate). Owned for 5ish years and I’ve put 50k on it. 80k in total.
I’ve spent about 7k keeping it on the road, fixing issues that shouldn’t be there for a car this age and mileage. Not including “on-the-road costs” like tyres.
    -Had the brake servo/abs issue.
    -Had the AdBlue issue.
-Odometer failed and had to be replaced.
    -2 broken rear coil springs.
-Have the issue with low interior heat.
-5 (yes five) new sets of front discs/pads due to excessive warping.
    -1 new calliper.

I can go on, but suffice to say my experience of “Vorsprung durch Technik” is actually “our technology is crap”.

  5. Had this issue. Filled the tank to the brim, then immediately had 650mi until no start…the day before I had to make a 640mi round trip up north. The last 20mi home was squeaky bum time I can tell you.

In the end, I’ve had a guy “map out” the “no restart” function from the main ECU. Gets rid of the panic over no restart, just leaves the fault in place. Not bothering to have it fixed as the car is fine with the fault in place. Will wait for Audi to issue a recall to fix the, clearly common, fault. I’m guessing I’ve got more chance of !Removed! from a rocking horse than a recall, but let’s see!

If anyone’s interested, the guy is Andy at https://ecuflash.co

  6. Reading this thread has me back in June 2020 having an absolute nightmare with this.
Had the same sequence everyone has here. Brake servo restricted message. Then the park immediately message.

Long long story short, I ended up sending the bricked abs unit to ECU Testing, who said they’d never seen this issue before. But they managed to fix it.

So for anyone who has the abs unit problem, get your mechanic to remove the abs unit (if you can’t do it yourself) and send it to them. I recall it was like £700 for the whole fix. Much cheaper than a replacement.

    Hope this helps someone.

No dont have Carista, just have Ross Tech VCDS which I would have thought might do the same thing. Thanks for the update on the flush.

Yeah I’d assume it’d have a similar function. Defo worth a look 👍👍

Thanks for the info Ian, I am reluctant to flush as I am not convinced the matrix is blocked. My current thoughts are a) The coolant is just not hot enough, hence thinking about the thermostat, and b) I can here the motors that move the heating flaps in the ducts but are they actually move full distance. Before I pull the car to bits I have a cheap (Aldi) endoscope, so I am going to see if I can feed under the dash and actually see any movement. Will update if/when I find anything

Cheers Stephen. I was hoping the Thermostat wouldn't be too bad to get at, but it sounds horrendous. The car is due a service and cambelt, so seems an appropriate time to do the the Thermostat as well!

    No problem.
Just a little update, post flush. We’re away this weekend, so have put 150mi solid drive since the flush.

The car is now much hotter. Still nowhere near where my wife’s GLA gets, but I wasn’t cold on the drive.

@Redwolf do you have Carista by chance? I do, and found a HVAC calibration which checked and set all the flaps on the vents. That would (I think) throw an error is any we’re stuck.  Don’t know if that helps or not.

    Hi,

Apologies, I can’t offer a solution (yet), but I have the exact same issue. You could actually be driving my car!!

I’m currently mid-way through a heater core flush but ran out of time yesterday. Finishing it later today.

Hopefully this’ll do the trick and I can report good news later, but I’d like to follow this chat in case it didn’t.

    🤞

Ok, flush completed. No difference. Heat in cabin is luke warm at best.

So keen to hear any ideas on this one!

  11. Hi Forum!

im looking at getting myself an A4 avant, TDI auto, either SLine or Ultra sport (150 or 190).

Been looking for a few weeks now and I’ve noticed that some have upgraded DIS from the standard 5in monochrome to the 7in colour.

Typically, (as I’m buying 2nd hand) I can’t find any that have the other spec ‘bits’ I want, as well as the 7in DIS.

I was wondering if this could be retrofitted, and if so would it cost a bomb to do?

Thanks to anyone that can give me any info!
