    Dear fellow audi owners

My bottom arm gave up today, bought new part but the washer from hub is stuck on old part.

Can I buy the part in picture attached [red arrow pointing to hub] or do I need a new hub?

    Any advice welcome.

    Thanks

    Hello,

In brief the power steering lost all its hydraulic fluid and thus no steering, made it home onto my driveway, just.

My mechanic visited my house to inspect and observed that the hydraulic reservoir for the power steering was empty.  He filled it up and drove it 10 minutes to his forecourt to get it on the ramps and see what was going on.

He then called up saying that he does not have the knowledge (time) to perform fix nor does his more experienced mechanic want to go near it.  He said the best way forward would be to get Audi to fix it at their exorbitant rates.

Due to my hearing disability I cannot hear mechanical warnings - I have been asked 'did it make this or that noise' as ignoring it would then lead to catastrophic problems, like what I have now.. well, I cant hear the warnings! The car's leather barely broken in, everything works beautifully, cherished; even the metallic paintwork has no circular scratch marks from hand-washing.  Now I am faced with the prospect of sending it to the car morgue for scrap which is something I do not wish to do!  Can anybody in the Basingstoke area assist?

    Some contemplation...

So for those like me who want to keep our old a6 going for years to come (I admit mines not working ATM), the biggest issue I foresee for all 20+ year old cars, is how are we going to keep the electronics going, when they're no longer available?
Such as ECU, gearbox modules, CCM, etc as these aren't always repairable. Not to mention the issue with coding.

I wonder, in order to keep these cars on the road is by bypassing or removing them?

As people with knowledgeable on complex coding is limited
I'd be interested in other people's views.

My friend has recently returned to the UK from working in the USA. Her car (garaged in Maidenhead, Berks) is a 1998 model with about 86k miles travelled. It was last MOT'd in 2008 so is not roadworthy and does not start. If she wanted to make it roadworthy it is likely to cost more than the car is worth.

Is there someone out there who would make an offer to take this vehicle?

    pics help big time   kev
