  1. Morning All, While getting the car MOT ready and changing the front left control arm bushes I've snapped one of the 'Left Control Arm Bracket Bushing' bolts It is now half sticking out of the left subframe wishbone bracket (I believe it's called) It seems to be a common thing looking online, just wondering if anyone has experience with this and what the best solution is for this? I'm guessing it's going to be a new subframe wish bone bracket, could this lead to more snapped bolts? Thanks guys!
  2. I’m on around 103,000 at the moment I would say it’s in good condition, we got the car from jct with around 70k on with good service history and I’ve change oil and filters ever since every 10k(ish) .. last change was probably around 91/92k I’ve never noticed and significant drop in water or oil, but fuel consumption seems to be getting worse recently. I’m not really getting decent mpg for the car and if I do try drive economically if puts the dpf light on
  3. In answer to both previous comments: The EGR value threw up a fault a month or so ago and was cleaned out of all the crap inside and after that has ran okay. So I doubt that will be blocked already The previous mention of a smoke engine was coming from the actual engine bay and turned out to be oil burning off from a leak, I can't remember the exact cause This time it's coming from the exhaust pipe. An other thing to note is the DPF light is starting to become a common thing now and 9 times out of 10 comes on after filling the tank. As it did today
  4. Really in need of some help or advice here please My DPF light came on today, so went on a run on the motorway to try clear it. It didn't come off by the time I stopped, however as I was coming off the motorway when I changed into 3rd I seemed to loose a lot of power, a huge puff of white/grey smoke come from the exhaust and then power returned I stopped turned the engine off and went in a shop for maybe 10 mins. When I came back out the car wouldn't start, it was just cranking very very slowly After letting it sit for an other 5 mins, the car started but then ..... after about 100m the car accelerated full throttle on its own, and I was engulfed in smoke from the exhaust pipe I quickly turned the engine off and give everything a chance to 'settle'. The car then started up fine and I had a very bum twitched 4 mile drive home The car will start fine now but I've not been back out in it. Does anyone have any idea at all what could have caused this or if there could be something serious wrong? Thank you!!
  5. UPDATE: upon closer inspection there seems to be oil coming through the crankcase breather hose, which then looks to be leaking out through a joint in the main air intake pipe onto the manifold/other hot bits
  6. Thanks for both of the replies, I'll have a look for exhaust leaks tonight with a spray bottle As regards the EGR, I have had to top my coolant up this morning as it was very low. I'll have to keep a close eye on that to see if it drops low again I'll look for signs of coolant leaks tonight (before checking for exhaust leaks! haha) Thanks again
  7. Bit of help needed guys please! - I've googled before hand and there doesn't seem to be much on this topic On my way into work today I noticed quite a bit of whiteish coloured smoke coming from under my bonnet which stank like exhaust fumes When I got to work I've opened the bonnet and the smell was that bad I couldn't keep my head in the engine bay long enough to have a proper look!! The smoke seemed to be coming from behind the engine, between the engine block and firewall. Now it is parked up the engine won't rev over 2000ish rpm but there are no codes coming up (I have been told this is standard on these cars, but in almost 3 years of ownership this is the first time I've noticed it happen) Is there any 'go to' things I should be looking for? Is this a known or a common issue? or could it be as simple as an exhaust leak? (although I can't hear anything blowing) Any help would be massively appreciated .... Thanks again!!
  8. Thanks for the reply Yes I've just been looking on euro car parts at the springs. I would be looking at changing both sides, I have never replaced just 1 .. I have always gone for 2 or all 4 Do you think the safest option would be to speak to a main dealer and see what support they can offer?
  9. Hi all .. my first post here and from what I can see from google searches it's a common one .. but I just can't find the answers I need One of my front springs has snapped and on ECP there are 3 different coil springs ... standard/sport - non sline/sport - sline Please can someone help me out finding out what suspension I have .. If it's a case of taking the springs off and measuring them then that's what I'll have to do My A3: Audi A3 8PA 2010 2.0tdi 5 door the only codes I can find in the option list that relate to suspension are G38 and UA1 which from what I can find tell me nothing about what springs are on the car ... I've had a quick look with the car on the ground and managed to see a white and red mark on the spring but nothing more. I apologise again for repeating what seems to be a common thread, but I'm struggling to find the answers I need and with all the restrictions in place at the moment I don't want to be ordering the wrong spring and having to have more deliveries than needed Thanks again!!
