  1. Hi I hope somebody can advise please I have an A4 B9 Tdi Avant and have had a couple of minor engine faults that needed investigating and resetting and would like to purchase a simple reader that would allow me to read the faults and reset if applicable, I really do not want and cannot afford to spend a fortune for an all singing and dancing unit, could anyone please advise on a very simple unit that would work for me,thank you
  2. Hi Brian thank you for responding to my post and have responded to Gareth with a detailed breakdown of my quoted costs and details on the Warranty terms and conditions a link for which is attached, just a point the cam belt change price seems cheap for an Audi dealer and wonder if it includes the water pump and if you don’t mind I wouldn’t mind knowing the dealer that quoted you and if too far from me I could at least get a quote and use that with my local Audi dealer for a price match 1) “all in one plan” @ £717 (2 services, 2 years b/down and 2 years warranty) 2) Stronic gearbox service @ £288 3) cam belt and water pump replacement @ £852 making a total of circa £1800 for 2 standard services, 1 Stronic gearbox service, a cam belt and water pump replacement and 2 years warranty cover The “all in one” policy @ £717 includes 2 off services ( 1 oil, filter service and 1 oil, filter and pollen filter service) worth £450 ish, this leaves £267 which includes 2 MOTs (which I wouldn’t use as I believe as others have said that this is a revenue generating stream for further work) 2 years breakdown cover and most importantly “2 years warranty”, a point of note is that this is an “Audi” warranty provided by Audi not an insurance backed one, I fully understand that they may not always rollover upon a claim (do they ever ! even on a new car) but having read their documentation and having spoken to their helpline I feel that most of the things covered on a new car are potentially covered, I also feel that if the car is serviced in line with the Audi service regime and not abused they would be hard pressed to deny the claim, another point of note is that there is no excess to pay. Taking in to account the above I tended to feel that £267 for 2 years warranty and breakdown cover was a pretty good deal as that’s probably only 2 to 3 hours labour for an Audi engineer. i really do appreciate all of you kind people taking the trouble to read and respond to my post, and am always open to others thoughts/interpretation and suggestions as I may be missing something. To be honest it is the “warranty” that draws me like a magnet I am inherently a worrier (Stronic/engine/mmi problems etc) and looking for some sort of peace of mind, I have had this car from new, initially as a company car I then bought it when I retired so know the full history of the car and must say it really is the best car I have ever had and absolutely love it !, I initially started to look for a replacement car but as I would only have the same again but with less miles and younger could not get my head around paying around another 20k for what would be effectively the same car and not knowing it’s history, I do know that saying all that may be the kiss of death but sincerely hope not, it really does seem a steal and 2 years peace of mind (sort of !) for £267 and for me at least is a no brainer, please see below for warranty terms and conditions as I really cannot see any major stitch up in them and hopefully this may be something others of our group may wish to take advantage of. https://customer.vwfs.co.uk/content/dam/bluelabel/valid/www-vwfs-co-uk/documents/Audi_Warranty–Terms_and_Conditions.pdf i will hopefully get around to responding to all contributors but wish to thank you all for your input. kind regards Mike

  4. Hi Gareth and all i am the original poster and would just wish it clarify, the £1800 was a combination of 1) “all in one plan” @ £717 (2 services, 2 years b/down and 2 years warranty) 2) Stronic gearbox service @ £288 3) cam belt and water pump replacement @ £852 making a total of circa £1800 for 2 standard services, 1 Stronic gearbox service, a cam belt and water pump replacement and 2 years warranty cover The “all in one” policy @ £717 includes 2 off services ( 1 oil, filter service and 1 oil, filter and pollen filter service) worth £450 ish, this leaves £267 which includes 2 MOTs (which I wouldn’t use as I believe as others have said that this is a revenue generating stream for further work) 2 years breakdown cover and most importantly “2 years warranty”, a point of note is that this is an “Audi” warranty provided by Audi not an insurance backed one, I fully understand that they may not always rollover upon a claim (do they ever ! even on a new car) but having read their documentation and having spoken to their helpline I feel that most of the things covered on a new car are potentially covered, I also feel that if the car is serviced in line with the Audi service regime and not abused they would be hard pressed to deny the claim, another point of note is that there is no excess to pay. 5. Thank you Jon i really appreciate your response and sentiment as it makes a lot of sense, but have been struggling to find a VAG specialist (with good reviews) local that is significantly cheaper than Audi dealer, the prices you have been charged are very impressive I have actually been quoted around £750 for cam belt etc and around £340 for Stronic service against £287 from main dealer standard oil change service around the same price, my concern I suppose is if the Stronic box packs in or the engine goes kaput if I haven’t done anything silly the warranty should kick in and cover it I would hope as I dread to think of the cost. Perhaps I worry too much !
  6. Good evening all i don’t know if I am doing this correctly but hope i am, I have a November 2016 A4 (B9), Sline Stronic Avant which I have had from new and am over the moon with (kiss of death but it is the best car I have ever had !) being now retired and only doing around 8,000 miles per year I would really like to keep it, it has now covered circa 70,000 miles and has always been serviced by an Audi main dealer in line with the schedule, I am aware that it is nearing requiring the following an oil and filter service (circa £200/£250) stronic gearbox oil and filter change (quoted £287.82) cam belt replacement with water pump (quoted £852.56) i have noticed the “all in one” 2 year warranty/service plan at £719.76 which covers 2 services, 2 mot’s, 2 years breakdown cover and most importantly of all “2 years warranty” this appears to cover most things (but cynic that I am don’t necessarily believe that) it really seems too good to be true as the old saying goes as if you take off 2 services, 2 mot’s, 2 years breakdown cover the 2 years warranty would be “free”, I am something of a worrier and must admit that the “2 years warranty” whether free or not is a major attraction to me. My question really is has anyone taken this out and actually used the warranty as if everything is an argument and non acceptance of the claims I would rather not do it, but as I see it I could get all my servicing, mot’s done, breakdown cover and peace of mind with the warranty for 2 years for around £1,860. Sorry for the long ramble but hoped that someone may have experience of the warranty and wish to advise. sincere kind regards Mike
  7. Hi i never had that problem and must have removed and replaced mine 20 or 30 times without issue, I assume you have inserted the lugs correctly into the channels ?, if you look into the channels you will see a U shaped runner without the cover located do they move up or down with the operation of the tailgate if not check the fuse, I can’t understand why it would just stop working on removal and replacement of the cover and feel it must be something simple. not to be a prophet of doom you had better hope you don’t need a new motor assembly !, Audi want around £570 for a new one (not fitted !) robbing !Removed!, A4 b9 part number 8W9863560, but all is not lost and they are available used on EBay,I managed to get one for £37 but haven’t received or fitted it yet. Good luck regards Mike
  8. Hi again I don’t know if this is the correct way to add to my previous post so if not I apologise in advance, I am trying to get to access/remove the electric luggage cover motor assembly but cannot see how to remove the plastic side trims (covering the slide rails) and the top cover over the motor assembly but cannot figure out how to do it and am concerned that I may damage them in the process, I have been trying to obtain a workshop manual for my specific model (2016 b9 A4 Avant Sline) without success, I have asked Audi but they only have them for internal use. any advise would be most appreciated kind regards Mike
  9. Hi Guys I would like to pick your brains if you don`t mind, I am having a problem with the powered luggage cover mechanism, when the power tailgate shuts the cover does not always come down and am concerned that the mechanism has been damaged as on a few occasions it has been fouled when closing by objects in the luggage area, the rail sliders on both sides move when the tailgate closes (without the cover in place) therefor the motor still operates but seem to stick when the cover is inserted in the grooves and wonder if there is a friction clutch on the motor that is now slipping. I have carried out various searches on the internet but cannot seem to find any information on the problem or indeed the motor removal/repair etc and wondered if anybody had experienced similar problems or can at least point me in right direction, I would of course be very grateful for any advice you could provide. Sincere kind regards Mike
  10. Hi Gareth thank you for your quick and kind response, very interesting answers not really hung up on it but wished to ask like minded people for their opinion, I must be honest I hate the local Audi dealers and do not trust them to give good advice/value etc, historically they have wanted to replace brake pads at 65% worn (for 65%worn read read 35% left after 50,000 miles) and couldn't understand my refusal in addition I believe that the pads have warning sensors built in. i have also had warranty problem with them, I had an MMI issue before the warranty expired, whilst normal driving on the Radio screen it would randomly display various phone numbers radio stations etc, it did not change anything or call anyone but was dammed annoying, logically it was something to do with the programmable touch buttons but nothing was touching them and I provided a video of it to them, when I took it in they removed the console cover and noted there was dust underneath ! which “could be” the issue and therefore warranty was denied I was quoted the best part of £1,100 to replace the module and would not even state that this would stop the problem !!, my response to them was that if dust had got under the cover and this was likely to cause a problem it should be sealed better and was therefore a manufacturing quality issue, this obviously fell on deaf ears. i would have liked to give the business to a local Audi specialist garage really (if there is such a thing) using genuine Audi parts, because of the trust issue and hoping to save a bit as well. once again Gareth, I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. Have a good day kind regards Mike
  11. Hi I am new to this forum so please forgive me if if the question sounds stupid or in the wrong format but I wondered if anyone can advise please, I have 2016 Audi A4 Avant which I have had from new and love, it is now due a service and wondered about non Audi dealer servicing (due to terrible experiences at local Audi dealer) but am unsure if they can complete the online service record and if they would know what the service entails ?, is there anything to look out for in selecting a garage to carry out the work I live in Derby ( any recommended garages would be appreciated), I suspect that Genuine Audi parts should be used, the car is out of warranty but wish to ensure that when trading in at some point in the future the “non Audi” service does not detract from the service history. Thank you in advance for your advise. Kind regards Mike
