Are you really referring to low coolant pressure warning? I suspect you mean low oil pressure.
The 1.4 TFSI engines of that era were notorious for their skinny piston rings causing dramatic losses of oil which would explain the low compression readings and failed sniff test. The only realistic solution is installation of redesigned pistons and rings at great expense. Whether the coolant loss is related I can not say.
Your first garage was right to suggest renewing belts and water pump at the same time because they would be due in 10000 miles and would need another engine strip down to install them, so it is cheaper to have the lot done at the same time.
In its present condition I doubt that the car is worth more than £1000. Do you love it enough to spend several thousand pounds on it?
Yes oil pressure, & it's a timing chain not belt. Happy with the pump & belt, not the unnecessary chain.

So my 2013 1.4tfsi has been into 2 garages for coolant loss & random "Stop engine low pressure" light.
First garage said head gasket & quoted £3,055 for the work, but they added w/pump & belt plus timing chain on a 60k engine.
Second garage concurred but refused the job saying Tfsi engines were rubbish & couldn't guarantee it was head gasket alone! And fitting another engine would cost 3-5k!
Third was online community who all say both are a joke, & a few mentioned the intake manifold cooler as possible reason?
So sniff test done & failed, compression test & failed (none said what readings were or what cylinder(s) )
Now it's losing coolant rapidly, however there's no white smoke, oil is still clean & runs absolutely fine with no misfires.
Car on a good day could fetch 5-6k due to improvements made over 4 years i've had it. Now stuck on what to do or go next? I live in Crewe & no particular VAG specialists nearby other than official garage.

I agree, but this is clearly not made to fit the top strut mounts.
The photo on their website shows it as it's laid on my car at present. Poor pic to zoom in on, but the angles & attachment to each end of the brace itself appears to hide inside the gap between the top of inner wing & just below.
In my pic (LHS) you can see it obstructed by the plastic trim directly above headlamp, below the 2 screws that are visible (clearly not strong enough for a brace mount IMO)

Hello Richard,
I don’t think there separate clips at the locations photographed - I believe the bumper has its own plastic protrusions which clip into corresponding slots in the arch.
Possibly broken on dismantling and not repaired via. plastic welding before spraying/refitting.
Sounds like a trip back to whoever did the work for you.Perhaps you could let us know how you get on.
Regards,
Gareth.
Having pulled out the bumper edge & looked at it again, i think you may be right.
There may have been tabs that sat above the bumper lip to be held on inside by the upper rear panel, so stopping the "bumper wing" from spreading out. If so, buggered if i know how to get round that one?

So my A1 2013 MY has the MFSW fitted from factory.
I would like to change it to the flat bottom version. So are other models (A3,S3 etc etc) easily interchangeable?
Believe mine is the 8x version & seen a lot of 8v versions for sale.
Mostly want the FBSW along with track F&B, plus re-using my original round airbag to save expense.
Any advice greatly appreciated 😉

So this relates to a Caddy, but the A1 is the same.
I need to know the fog light wiring colour & pin position., as i have fitted a bumper with fogs.
Have changed the switch to a fog one, & all wiring is in place but for the trigger wire from the switch to the relay.
Original non fog switch had 8 of 10 pins, fog enabled has all 10. I need to wire the trigger to the correct pin/wire to get the fogs to work.
Can anyone help? Pic is of old 8 pin switch.

Exhaust wise you can't go wrong with a powerful stainless steel system. I'd recommend them. The lights can be retro fitted and probably best via an auto electrician.
Exhaust yes. Lights i can do, just don't understand how the wiring is completely missing, hardly call it an added extra?

Welcome to the forum, lovely looking a1 🙂 you can ask.them.in.the a1 section 👍
Already have with zero response. I've noticed across many "car enthusiast" forums, how little people know about cars.
I'm also a member of a few M/cycle forums & there's a plethora of knowledgable people that is seriously lacking for 4 wheels.
I think the mechanically trained don't like to pass on too much for fear of losing work in the real world. Or maybe i'm paranoid :)

Having bought my "new" A1 1.4 tfsi Amplified Edition car, i'm finding some strange things amiss with it?
So here's a list:
- Although i have holes, there are no lights in footwell or glove box. Surely they can't be "extras"
- Car has had a mid box delete, yet it is still seriously quiet?
- Can anyone tell me size of front discs i should look for to replace with upgrades?
- I found a loose plug wire in boot, then found plug it goes in to at back of boot trim, what's it for?
Any help appreciated 😉
