So the audi would high rev to compensate for voltage is that true

My door card needed replacing so I got one and connected it up and place it back on the door drivers side only thing it didn't have is the red light on bottom. Question is it don't tell me if door is shut or open and the interior light doesn't come on or off so have I missed a sensor put or something thanks.

Now and again while idling the revs would go up to nearly 1000 and high idle. Now my mechanic is saying my altanator is craping out and it's high idle is compensating for the power that it needs. I've never hurd audis doing this, can some one tell me if this is true thanks.
