gas monkey

Hi there, just joined up cos my sister has an 04 A3 S-line diesel. It has developed an issue with the loom under the bonnet.Initially from the alternator which has cooked some of the wires apparently.She was told this is a known fault. Just wondered if anyone out there could shed a bit more light on this. I have worked on all my sis's cars,but they are getting more electronically based so figured i would ask first before i get into it. many thanks,
