Also after driving it after this post I’ve turned everything off in the car while driving and it seems not to go past 4th gear it still goes up through the gears on the dash and the rev counter but doesn’t seem to be changing when getting to 4th and gets to 7th at around the 45-50mph but still sounds like it’s stuck in 4th gear
  2. Oh dear! Thanks for the advice, I will try and get a diagnostic done after Christmas now, won’t be using my car much anyways. Hopefully they will be open on Tuesday next week. Thanks for your advice. Cheers
  3. Hi all, I’m a newbie here. I own a 2011 Audi A7 3.0 tdi Quattro S-line I’ve owned for about 2.5 years now, up until recently I’ve had no problems with it. My problems started approximately 4 months ago, the big belt that goes around the pulleys split but didn’t break but I didn’t know for a few days after. I carried on driving my car etc… I had a warning light on my car which read alternator is not charging the battery. I’m not very mechanically minded as you can tell by the post, but it was only short journeys I made for about 3 days everything seemed fine. On my drive back home I noticed the temp gauge rising and slight loss of power but no other warning lights. I got home within 5 mins of my temp gauge rising, parked on my drive opened the bonnet and noticed the belt was split but not broken. Upon further inspection I saw that my crankshaft pulley was snapped off completely, and sat on the undertray. So I just took the belt off phoned my friends garage told him what had happened and he said I would need a pulley and belt so I had it took to his garage where he carried out the work. I had asked another mechanic about the bits I need and he said I need a pulley, tensioner and belt as it’s better to get them done together. i told my mate at the garage to also put a tensioner on there too, he asked why? I told him that I’ve been told to get them done together. He agreed and did the work, I got my car back all seemed fine, but then 2 weeks later I was driving down my street and got the same warning message on the dash alternator not charging battery etc… so I stopped the car phoned my mate at the garage and he told me he would collect it the next day. I had a look under the bonnet and again the belt had come off but this time there was oil all over the pulleys and the belt and it had slipped off but nothing was snapped or broken. He took the car the next day I got a phone call and he said it was the sump tray what was the problem leaking oil and had sprayed up and caused the belt to come off. He said that the bolts had been snapped in the sump and he got them out and put new bits on etc.. I’ve been using the car everyday but there seems to be another problem this time with the gears it seems to go up the gears too fast just normal driving when I’m at like 15mph it’s up in 4th/5th gear and the gearbox seems to be whirring/whining when I pick up speed like it’s stuck in one gear it seems to gear up and down on the dash as normal and the revs but it seems and sounds like it’s stuck in 1 gear it’s a 7 speed auto. Can anybody help me with my problem? Or know what it could be or point me in the right direction of Some advice sorry for the long essay to get to my point
