  1. Should correct 1st post Engine is 2007 BMN 2.0TDI dohc 170bhp fitted to many audi's, and VAG group cars during this period
  2. Bought scanner to get " camshaft sensor fault !" For BMN dohc 170bhp engine on asking for engine faults on AI got message that fuel starvation can cause a mis- diagnosed fault code of "camshaft sensor failure" Be aware of this in event of diesel lift pump failure or in my case failure to bleed the fuel lines.
  3. I have 2 cars from the VW/Audi group and like to do DIY myself. My current problem is on a 2007 2.0TDI which is a PD engine - I think its the BKD. I had great difficulty getting enough room to fit a new brake servo and had to lower the engine. New brake servo fitted but while stripped down to fit Servo I fitted new timing belt, Water pump, idler wheels, tensioner and alternator belt and tensioner, To do this i had to disconnect the fuel pipes. Car now starts for a second or 2 then shuts down. When running it reved up OK and sounded fine. Felt like fuel starvation. Check diesel tank lift pump and it only gets an initial pulse. Took a 12V supply to lift pump and its working fine. I checked flow by disconnecting the diesel return pipe at the filter. It appears the ECU is shutting the engine down either a stupid fault on my part a cable damaged or disconnected or by coincidence a new fault. Decided to invest in a "good" OBD2 scanner to look for codes. Currently thinking of buying the OTOFIX D1 Lite but note that some scanners cost up to £1500. The 2026 version resets some 40 error codes and costs £309 on e bay. Any comments on possible causes and my choice of Scanner be appreciated? Being retired I have the time and prefer to spend money on equipment rather that official garage costs! I am a reasonably competent DIY mechanic as years ago I paid for my 4year engineering degree by repairing cars.
